CR-1 Owners - Flashing Red LED ? - Alarm?
I'm curious about the flashing red LED light under the eject button on the stock CR-1 on my cab.
Is it part of the immobilizer? It seems like it could be, but something makes me think it is different.
I'll describe it as best I can and maybe someone else might have one and know.
When the car sits unlocked, this red light flashes continually. When the car is locked it flashes continually, only when you start the car does it go off.
There is no tape or CD jam. In fact there is no CD holder in the trunk mounted unit at all.
It seems to be an alarm warning light of some type. Is it a radio tied into the immobilizer? Or is it just a visual deterrent like the flashing of the door LEDs.
Maybe because it's a cab it is an attempt at theft deterrent.
I've read the owners manual and found nothing.
The radio manual says it is the CD scan indicator - yet there is no CD and the light goes out when the car is started. There is no tape or CD jam. In fact there is no CD holder in the trunk mounted unit at all.
I have some option codes that I have not been able to decipher and was wondering if this may be one of them.
Sorry for the lousy cell phone radio pic, it's awful but shows the spot.
Any thoughts welcome.
And yes, those are crested sport seats in a cab with touring suspension
Thanks.
Regards,
.

Thanks Alex,
I had only looked at the feature diagram.
So this is really just a flashing beacon of useless nothingness. :-)
This is good to know for when I remove it, that it's not tied into a horn alarm.
Thanks again.

Same here till I came across that bit on page 4.
Maybe not.
If you look at Sheet 2 of the electrical diagrams, you'll note Pin II/9 (Radio Contact) and Pin II/13 (Radio 1) of the Control Unit Alarm System / Central Locking System.
I'd guess that the radio is tied into the alarm system.

My car alarm does not does not start when the CR-1 radio is pulled out and disconnected.
The radio will not operate once it is removed from the console, making it virtually useless to a thief.
The radio security code must be entered to use the radio.
The flashing red light is only indication that a security code is needed if the radio is disconnected.

Might it be because you've disabled the alarm to get into the car prior to pulling the radio. What happens when you pull the radio while you are in the car with the alarm set not that makes much sense.

I can't get into the car without disabling the alarm. I must be in the car to pull out the radio.

Dunno! Is it possible to be in the car with the alarm set?
There is no connection with the alarm system and the radio.

Most likely so that little red light on the radio knows when to flash
The other wire is probably the little green wire that always gets left floating around behind the radio when you replace the factory radio with something modern

There is a contact in the radio tray that senses if the radio has been pulled out and if it is in the circuit. Page 90-21 and 90-22, items 7 and 8.
Gotta love this site. It has me looking things up.

Thanks for all the replies.
Since it is tied to the alarm, it will be interesting to see if pulling the radio fuse eliminates the flash, or if it is powered by the alarm circuit.
I'll test that when I return home next week.

I was hoping to pull the radio earlier due to downright curiosity, but didn't find holes in the front face plate for the tools used to remove the CCU, which is what I expected. Now to figure that out.
I usually don't pay much attention to vehicle systems that don't make the car run. I only just got into the AC system using gauges to check the system components.
