993 convertible top issue

New member and 993 owner here. Convertible top works fine but I notice when the top is back up there are dimples created on both sides of the top in the area around where the rear of the door windows would be. I can best describe the look as if someone took a dull point and pressed it into the top. It is not punctured but deformed. The top is in great condition and I would like to fix this before the problem gets worse. I cannot see what might be causing this.
I'm hoping I'm not the first with this and that there might be an easy fix.
Thank you all. Love this resource.

Mine did this as well. Make sure the "dimples" are not the pins trying to poke through the top when folded. The pins need to be able to seat into a rubber grommet location in the top frame when the top is folded. I was able to do some adjustment to alleviate the issue, but be warned, if it goes out of alignment, it's a bear to get back into alignment. I moved the 2 "pins" (where the top folded down seats into) up a little higher. Seemed to help stop some the rubbing of the top at the fold. I do think this is something of a wear area, so eventually, the top will wear out and will need to be replaced.

Open the top about 3/4th's of the way and locate the spots on the fabric where the dimples appear. You'll be able to line it up and see the pins on each side of frame that are the cause. These pins point toward the sky when the top is fully open and pass through the folding frame as said above and trap a fold of top in between. There is an elastic strap in the top that pulls the fold of the top out from between the pin and the frame while its closing. The elastic strap on my top is no longer elastic. I pull that fold out from between the pin and frame by hand when opening. You should also make sure the rear window folds evenly to prevent creases.

I get dimples when the top is down but it always stretches out perfectly after the top has been put up for 24-48 hours. I had no idea that this was not a normal occurrence and was glad to learn that there is a way to check in to the cause and possibly correct it.

This is a common problem with 993 tops. The advice above is sound - carefully open the top to be sure the pins are not pressing on the fabric. I also glued a small leather pad on the inside of the fabric to protect the top. These tops are not the finest example of German engineering!!

I read on here that part of the hood locking motor recall by Porsche, included fitting shorter more rounded pins to stop this happening, is this right?

The pins are a part of motor recall. Shorter pins are installed. They are not the leading top pins, those are fine.
Dimples will turn into holes in time, btw.
