Erratic Engine
For the past couple of months I have tried unsuccessfully to address a notorious engine misfires / erratic rmp's / loss of power / rich engine fuel mixtures / smoke and finally this weekend at a DE ***** of fire through the mufflers.
I was able to pull up through the ob codes P0118 which is described as: "Engine Coolant Temperature circuit High Input" and P0331 which is described as "Spark Knock has not been sensed". Would a knock sensor cause the engine to misfire this way or is my ecu toasted? Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm out of ideas....my indy is suggesting that we drop the engine and change the knock sensors?

This sounds more like connector/continuity issues than dead knock-sensors to me.
I would be locating and cleaning the knock-sensor & head temp sensor connectors to make sure they are not oxidized and/or corroded. This is especially important when living on an island surrounded by salt water.
