... it says "... above 2,000 and keep it there";
if i'm not totally wrong, for emission testing its far more than 2,000 revs over given time ...
would it be just 2,000 i guess we would have here a lot of complains ...

Alright so now I'm conflicted. Does everyone think that this mentioned issue would be reason enough to scare you away if you heard about it before you bought your Tip?

Maintenance and not letting anybody rev car from cold like emission tester did with mine.

Nothing is unbreakable but you would be hard pushed to find another tip that has failed.
In the four years I've owned mine, I think I've heard of only one failure mentioned on forums (fora?).
Even seen the occasional supercharger modded tip.

Narkose, as geo clarified, he mentioned a rare possibility, which of course, should be looked after in case you give your car to a emission test ...
In general the ZF Tiptronic is pretty sturdy and as most RL's confirm mostly trouble free.
Another thing that might happen ones in a while is the leaking as mentioned by jg29, if your lucky its the pan gasket; unfortunately it might most possible be the right drive gasket, happens ones in a while. no mechanical danger, just time and costly to change. main question should be what do you prefer? I you want the car as daily driver in the city our for nice cruising with your girlfriend, get a tiptronic; if you want to push it and aim for some trackdays a manual would be the common choice. If city and cruising and occasional trackdays, a tiptronic can be more fun than a lot of guys here believe.

Burning Brakes
I'm going to backup geolab's comments here. Mine finally went pop (while hot), with a great thud and after about 2 hours on the road. I have no forward gears, only reverse and no warning lights or electrical type gremlins. Straight out mechanical failure during normal use. So it can and does happen to these gearboxes, however rare it may be in the 993.

How often do you have to change the filter? My friend just got a 97 993 tip.
