Interesting question, I don't know.
However I understand that the OE headlights with HID bulbs used a mechanical means for high beam and a single bulb. To aftermarket retrofit your car one would replace just the low beam bulb and buy most any HID kit with the "slim" ballast and put the entire kit inside the lamp housing.

Only reall difference apart from the litronic bulb and ballest etc, is the lense in front of the litronic bulb is on a gimble so it self levels, whereas on the standard headlights it is fixed, or that's how it is on uk headlights
