"Drive the 911 slow and easy on the throttle not exceeding 3k rpm (do not lug the engine) until at operating temperature".............. - Bruce Anderson

The RPM driving range? - there is no optimal rpm range but if there were,,, say 2.5K thru 4k rpm with this side of redline burst's from time to time. For throttle character, roll on the throttle and don't smash it - not on the street usually.... The 993 is more of a race car in leather and air condition'd clothing.....

The Hwy mileage is 25-27mpg @ 70-75mph when on an extended road trip; range 400 mi plus. Stock Cup II 17" w/ Michelin PS2 @ 38lbs - Calculated by pen and paper although the OBC digital readout is dam accurate. (OBC,, On Board Computer)

+1 to what M. Schneider said. We just returned from our region's annual "In Den Bergen" charity car show in Waynesville, NC and got 25 mpg going "uphill" and 27 mpg on the "downhill" return trip, running 65-75 mph. (Great event for a wonderful cause...Sarge's Animal Rescue). Always think ahead and downshift if you know the car will drop below 2.3-2.4k. As for warm up, start the car, let it idle for 30 sec., then hold the revs to 3k max until at operating temp. In extremely cold temps, when the car has to be outside, longer warm-up would be required.

Uh huh. So my day today was a 25 mile (24.5 of it on freeway) shot at 4AM. Would I prefer getting better than 20 +/-1 MPG? Yeah. If 4S wasn't reasonably economical to operate, what would be the point of owning it? Absent the occasional acceleration run through about third gear, not like anyone is using more than "Kia" performance on the street in the US. Ever.
