Rear Bumper Blocks Color Matched
I've always thought the rear, non-color matched, USA bumper blocks were a weak spot in an awesome looking design. So I conjured up a set of spare bumper blocks (Thanks to RLer 993 770!) and got them painted up by Eric Sklut of BumperPlugs (no affiliation, satisfied customer only). WARNING: crappy, late night in the garage, cant use the focus well, iPhone pictures.
BEFORE:
AFTER:
(that's not a flaw on the bumper block, just reflection)
Definitely cleans up the rear end with the color matched bumper blocks...I guess that's one thing they did right in the 996 (other than building the GT3 I was going to do the painting, but after thinking about my level of painting skills, I canned that idea and ponied up cash, a good decision.
$$ spent:
$12 Spare bumper blocks, free for the cost of shipping. (again, Gracias! to a generous RLer)
$300 BumperPlugs painting+shipping+tax
Elapsed time on the mod:
10/2012 spare bumper blocks obtained (Thanks 993 770!)
05/2013 Sent to BumperPlugs for painting after admitting to myself that I'd never get around to it.
06/2013 Painted bumper blocks returned to me (only about 2 wks actual time)
8/3/2013 Installed, about a half hour. 8mm hex on 3/8 rachet with 6" extension, used carefully to avoid scratching paint on lower part of bumper. Possibly use some blue tape to cover the spot before using tools.
A nearly 10 month project for 2 bumper blocks (YMMV )....I'm a bit slow, on the track and on my mods!

Pirahna, can't wait to see how it turns out. Have you thought about just going euro and ditching the bumperettes?

Painted bumper (front and rear) are so much better. I just had my car repainted but did not paint the bumperette since I was scared the paint would chip on that material.

I thought about it but the cost is much higher to do the delete. I am getting my new turbo front bumper so I will get these painted at the same time for little to no extra money.

color-matched = faster
Keith-- Really incredible meeting you & your 993 last night! A thrill to mix it up with you & our mutual friends, but the highlight was giving me a test-drive.
Based on the scientific study of the smile still on my face there's no doubt: the newly painted surfaces definitely reduce drag!!!
My crummy low-light photo of an inspiring 993 & its newest tasteful mod:

Great to meet you and your wife last night! But I have yet to meet Speedy... We only got a quick blast up the freeway, but the car did seem pretty happy and ready to run after her morning de-carbonizing... That smile comes with sitting in either seat of any 993!!!
Luckily your pic doesn't show the bug splattered front and all the other dirt!
None to be painted. Euro front turbo bumper courtesy of the prior owner.
