Appreciate the concern, 96PCarrera993mg, but, if you've ever had an airbag go off in your face, the emblem on the cover would be the least of your worries...I have!

Worrying about an emblem hitting you if the airbag triggers is like refusing to go into the ocean because of fear of sharks.

Just did this .. got a leather a/b cheap on eBay but the gold crest had damaged red bars .. tried to fix that but it looked like heck ...

so I finally got the nerve to remove the cover ...

Here's the 'speednut' on the back, the dowel of the crest was 'swaged' into it like a blind rivet ... I had to grind the shaft off with a dremel tool to get the nut off. Fairly easy because it's brass ..

New silver/black crest ready to go in (note the rear pin/dowel) ...

I was able to slightly grind down the rear pin to accept a steel no. 6 speednut

Snap the cover back on the airbag unit and re-crimp all the metal retainers

and Voila .. like new.

Great work, JPP, but like Mike said...dangerous! At some tech sessions, we've intentionally set them off (at a safe distance). Makes a real believer out of you...Especially if it goes off in your face! (Fortunately, I had a full-face helmet on at the time.)

^^^ Believe me, I was very cautious, especially when I installed it in the car .. heh .. just kept out of the way at all times until I'd checked the electrics completely out ;-P

Matter of fact, this crest looks to be the OEM piece used on the factory units. It comes in three different finishes. This one is the "golden". It has a protrusion on the back which I snipped off, then ground flat. Applied double-sided moulding trim tape to the backside, trimmed off excess with a razor blade, cleaned off the crest area on my wheel covering with a Q-tip moistened with de-natured alcohol, then carefully pressed it in place.
Mine came a few days ago. Found this at OSH, looked like the sturdiest double sided tape they had. and here it is mounted.
