Whn I hear the word Singer...
 

I think of sewing machine...ole school. I just don't get this car. Never have, never will.

Original 964 cars seem to be picking up in value, with an unmolested SoCal 964 with 200,000 miles and a rebuilt engine, selling for close to $40,000.

In retrospect, maybe I am a hater, but a passive one...these cars will soon go away....a hater in the sense that I hate to see a beautiful car molested.:to_order:

I bet one would be hard pressed to build one to this level of detail and materials for less than the asking price.

Singers are great 911s. Who can doubt that. And Chris Walrod got a nice well-deserved plug in the Road & Track article. Well done, Chris!

But, as others have said, for $500K, you can get a true early 70s Carrera RS, which is not only the real deal, but a car that will only go up up up in value. Will a Singer? I don't know.

I would love to own a Singer. But at $500K it's not the car at the top of my list for that price point :cheers:

Well I finally made it home and looked at the Road & Track cover again--"Chasing The Clock" etc etc etc.

Maybe I'm too dense to figure out anything else than the plain meaning of those words. (My wife who no longer gives a rat's ass about cars....or more importantly what now passes for sports car owners....looked at the cover and when I answered the "where" of Laguna her first question was how they modified it to be a race car. As in wheel-to-wheel competition against what I've driven there.)

That's about all I have to say. I can close the thread, but feel free to pile on.

I will say that the Singer owners I know already have a 73 RS. Already have a 73 or 74 RSR. Already have a 60s 911.

Already have a 964 RS or 964 Turbo S. Or both.

So when it gets to that point. A Singer makes a lot of since. A very nice very cool older 911 you can drive around every day and hoon in too!!

Most Singer owners don't say "well for 500k I could get a 73 RS instead".... Because they already have that.

Well Leh, how do you like it?

The car I saw was light green with mint-ish green stripes and orange Porsche logos IIRC.

Again, no hate, just reporting my impressions. I encourage people to make up their own minds after they've actually seen a car in person.

I loved it. It was a great drive and had the feeling of a great 911.

Plus it had no flaws. Held up to 2 days of beating like a champ. Well like a 911 should of course!

I am really I love with the details of the body but the best thing is the interior for me. They did an amazing job with that.

Plus all the guys were really cool and had a huge passion for the car. And Rob was awesome to hang with.

Everything had a great vibe and we had a ton of fun over the 2 days doing the tests. I really fell in love with the little car.

No way I could ever own one because of the price. But I do think they are worth it for the people that own. And Singer owners are very happy with their cars I can tell you that!!

Personally, love everything about Singer (other than their price point only because its unattainable :)) What they are doing on the Porsche platform has caught like wildfire and there are a couple of companies going down that route with BMWs (http://www.hagertyinsurance.co.uk/Ar...ining-a-Legend) and Jags (the Jaguar Mk2 done for Ian Callum by Classic Motor Cars and now offered to other buyers). You'll note in the BMW link the creators admit having taken inspiration from Singer.

...., because I don't have that kind of money to spend. I am not bitter about this, it is what it is, as we say. I am noting that lots of the initial models are going to Dubai, etc....

I am a "leave the cars alone" kind of person. Example, the 73 RS? At it's zenith back in the day, 40 years ago, what a car. I had the opportunity to drive one in New Zealand about 10 years ago. When you drive one of these, own one of these, you own a piece of history. When you own a ????, I won't mention it's name, what do you really have at the end off the day? But it is what it is...it's a hacked up 964, albeit to a high level of detail.

Performance....the "whatever its called", is ensconced with a monster engine, or course it's going to perform.

Personally, for the money, I'll take a couple of GT3 cars, maybe 993 RS Club Sport...I need to sign off this post because I will never be convinced of its value. To me it will always be a poseur oil baron ride.

Oh please...and they all have $50,000 diamond encrusted Rolex watches...Singer owners you know, really. How many are there in the world? And you know a subset of these? My bull**** detector is going off. I am getting off this thread...it's just pissing me off.
