Default Origin of 993 4-spoke "sport" steering wheel?

I purchased RJT 993 RS CS replica. It came with a 993 4-spoke steering wheel "sport" version.
As you can see in the picture, its basically perforated leather versus smooth.

I would like to know more about the steering wheel.
- Did it come from the factory included in one of my options codes?
- Is the wheel standard on 993 RS models?
- Is it just a standard wheel someone had redone with perforated leather?

My hero JPP tells me its rare, and he's only seen a couple times, but I can't help wanting to fill in the blanks on its origin.

Yes, I have search many times, but too many results that lead to dead ends. I appreciate any help or insight.

Code Option Description
030 Sport Group
220 Locking differential
224 Active Brake Differential
241 Shorter shifting travel

398 17 " 5-Spoke Wheels (P205/50ZR17 front, P225/40ZR17 rear) [1996]
398 18" Technology Design Wheels [1997]
425 Rear wiper

My first thought is that it's a modified, standard steering wheel.

Thanks Andreas

For awhile I thought it was unique, say a steering wheel that came stock on the 993 RS, and hence when the guy turned this car into a RS clone he found the steering wheel to match.

However, I am now starting to believe the same as you since I can't find any information on it.

^^^ Zing^^^

Maybe JPP will chime in and ad some color. It's hard to disagree with the Pope but...

(Disclaimer: JP never said it came from a RS (that was me trying to look under any rock), but he thought it had a rarity to it perhaps)

How about asking JoAnn? I'm sure she would know or may know the path to an answer.

^^^ Agreed

JP and I were trying to find out at one point what came in:
Code Option Description
030 Sport Group

And was there a tie in there. But looking at a thread that had the original ordering sheet, I believe it was primarily suspension nothing more.

I believe we did speak about it and both wanted to dig further to find details. It was more of a head scratcher and side item to dig into at a later time.

If it's just a standard 4spoke wheel thats been redone, I may have it redone again making it a bit thicker and adding yellow stitching or buy the RS wheel above.

I would guess modded as well.

Remember that the factory RS steering wheel doesn't have an airbag.

You know, I think I already sent you the correct option code for this wheel, but I think if you want to know more about this rare, smaller diameter wheel you should ask the guy who built the car, Pelican user e30m3. The wheel is special order option code 432 "4-Spoke 363mm leather sports steering wheel" and was available on any 993 as far as I know. I've now seen two others, one on a factory RS at 9m and one on a U.S. spec '97 coupe at a dealer in San Diego where the option code 432 was listed on the under hood options sticker. The RS wheel had the perforations on the grips like yours and the U.S. car's wheel was just standard Classic Grey leather. I doubt you could see the diameter difference unless you had a standard 4-spoke in hand to compare it to and no, I don't know the standard diameter.

Here's e30m3's original for sale ad's 'as delivered' description of the car:
***SOLD***

I figure I’m going to have to write this if I intend to sell the car, so here goes: Speed Yellow 993 C2. Never been smoked in, never been in an accident, never been in snow, and has VERY rarely seen rain. I shipped it in from California, where it was religiously maintained at High Performance House (650.364.6234). I have most records since new. It’s immaculate. Without getting into specifics, it pulls very hard, stops very well, and handles great.

Definitive “reluctant sale.” I don’t have to sell the car, and I’m finding that it’s killing me to write this. Porsche guys talk about buying cars that are “fully sorted” – this car is definitely that. Only thing it could use is a center taillight piece. I have the Autocheck (which is clear) and the VIN if you’re interested in doing a Carfax (which is clear) instead. The car has been maintained by Taylor Chapman (of Chapman Auto Works – 703.467.9130) since its arrival in Virginia. I would think that either shop would vouch for the condition 993 in a heartbeat.

Here’s the list.

Car (OEM):
1995 Porsche 911 (993) Carrera Coupe
Speed Yellow (almost perfect – couple of tiny nicks in the clear bra and one on the rear fender – see photos)
Black Interior (perfect and immaculate. No sun warping, genuinely rare condition)
Six-speed manual (shifts smooth)
Limited Slip Differential
Sport steering wheel (v.rare)
Sunroof
Carbon Fiber/Aluminum shifter/e-brake package (v.rare)
Motor Sound Package
111,2xx miles

Considering how potentially rare this wheel is, it might make sense to buy a beat up 4-spoke on eBay or here and just have that one redone to your liking .... just a thought.

Hey, I have a GREAT idea. Why don't you send me the wheel to take care of and I'll send you the original 4-spoke from SpeedArena when she was delivered as a wide body Cab. I'll even pay for shipping ... :-)
