Default EXCELLENCE magazine under new editor G Brown

hmmmmmmmmm
True, I am a bit cranky right now for other reasons, but not really feeling the changes to recent editions.
  • No Jeff Zwart photo's (just met him and his most recent PP missile last weekend @ Irvine C&C).
  • Really miss Chris Harris' scribes, even though I think he was MIA before Pete S left.
  • Editorials don't hold my interest.
  • The recent mix of featured cars hasn't really led me to read an edition cover to cover.
Not ready to give up on them yet, but I guess it's no surprise that Pete didn't share the route of the "secret test loop" when he left.

what would I like to see?
  • More Jeff Zwart
  • More Chris Harris
  • More Randy Leffingwell
  • More Ian Kuah
  • More Hot Rod / outlaw 911s
  • Fewer 356s
  • More Technical articles. Mine Tony Callas' font of knowledge if he's willing to put the time in. i recently referred to his articles on ignition key replacement and 996 GT3 water fitting issues. pretty much invaluable stuff.
  • Would be nice to get a clear, concise highly technical explanation of the new nanny tech that P is putting into the new cars, (PTTC, PDLS, PTV with various transmissions, LSD options blah blah blah)

cheers

Craig

Funny, was just thinking the same thing as I thumbed through the latest issue.. My subscription is up and I have no desire to renew. Sad as I've been a loyal subscriber for years. These recent issues just seem un-interesting

It's not as bad as what they did with Road & Track. What a shame that is.

This is timely. I just read my first two issues as a potential subscriber. Its decent but I couldn't figure out what all the accolades were for that I had heard in the past. Now I see. After reading the latest issue last night I didn't see a need to subscribe.

Reading mine now- didn't think it was that bad. Pete will be hard to replace, and PANO is miles better now, but I'll still give it a chance. The 914-6 article was pretty good and I fondly remember those Ginther cars when they raced originally.

The Internet has really taken a toll on newspapers and magazines, at least in printed form. There is instant access to information and plenty of reading materials available on any subject desired.

EReaders took another step, at some point, printed materials will be a thing of the past.

Many students at my daughter's high school just use iPads and laptops instead of text books. They have a program where you can download PDFs of the text books. Some even use their phones.

I get enough Porsche information and related materials via the Internet, and mostly right here, without a once every month and a half Excellence.

And that's really where most of us are. I don't need to read yet another old 911 hotrod article. We did everything you could do with those probably by 1990 (3.6L installs would have been the last of the variants). Spinning a story on an RSR finishing 8th in class/19th overall at Le Mans/Daytona/Sebring gets to be reaching, likely to make a market at yet another auction for a newly restored car. Etc.

+ 911

Total 911 and Porsche 911 World are the current Porsche magazines to read.

I probably look at every ad in the mags. At some point in the first few days after Excellence arrives ill sit down with it and a favorite beverage to look at every page. I am more interested in who is selling what than the articles. If there was a way to casually browse through a few pages of interesting ads with interesting cars (Champion Motorsports) on the web I would probably not renew.
