Default Dim display on CDR 220 radio

The faceplate works fine on another radio so it is the "box".
Any ideas after cleaning contacts?
TIA

When the faceplate is on the working radio are you looking at it straight on? The 993 angles it upwards in the dash. The faceplate can be recalibrated to be visible at an angle if that's your issue.

This is just a wild-***-guess: Is the radio light connected to the same dimmer switch for the dash lights? Does the dimmer have any effect?

Hope it's something simple,
