I wanted to put it out there that this weekend I'm going to be headed to the north GA hills and wanted to see if anyone else would like to join... My wife and son are out of town so im open to when and where...as long as we make to the good roads...
you can ping me here or call..
Be careful...We've had a bicyclist and two motorcyclists who were on weekend rides killed up here this spring. As a result, the roads are lousy with law enforcement on weekends, particularly in the afternoons.
Additionally, between the groups of cyclists taking up half the lane at 3 MPH, groups of 20-30 Hells Angels wannabes riding two-by-two at 30 MPH, knots of rice burners leaning over centerlines to take a curve at twice the speed limit, and untold numbers of campers and motorhomes-towing-cars trundling along, there's not a lot of room to play (Not sayin' that these folks don't have a right to ride/drive public roads. Just sayin' that it makes for lousy sport car driving).

Well, the cyclists haven't paid any gasoline tax for road maintenance...
For a summer weekend, I would go early (I would want to be off 400 by dawn ideally) and would stay away from Blood Mountain and 60 in Lumpkin County (very crowded). There's plenty of fun to be had on 180, 75, 76 east into clayton, 197 south out of clayton, etc. But a bit farther afield.
Everyone missed a great drive today.. The weather was nice and the traffic was oddly light... I did over 300 miles today....
Glad you had a good drive...I only got out to run a few errands around mid-day...Dahlonega and roads south and west were just stupid with motorcycles by that time of day...It was a nice day to drive weather wise.
I came up to Lake Chatuge yesterday. made the mistake of coming through Helen in the late afternoon. What a freakin' zoo... I did see a group of 3 or 4 911s stuck in the traffic there. It looked like a couple of 997s and a mid-80s 911...
The acountants on their Harleys were out in force. OT: Why does one have to dress up like a dirtbag to ride a Harley? Why can't they wear normal riding clothes?
So I'll be driving these roads all week in the daughter's MDX... 993 is in the body shop for a little elective surgery.

It can get pretty absurd sometimes....About two weeks ago I was on the square in Dahlonega and saw three guys strolling around in full Harley "gear," complete with acid washed "wife beater" style denim jackets that had the sleeves "ripped" out and frayed (Actually probably done with child labor in Indonesia) with the requisite Sturgis logo across the back.
They walked in from different directions and unwittingly converged so that they all three were standing looking at each other with very sheepish expressions on their faces.
At that precise moment, a guy came around the square on an ancient Harley, complete with monkey hangers and exposed chain and sprockets, poppin and smokin' like a real Harley...He had on an old white tee with grease swiped across the front where he had probably wiped his hands after working on his hawg and sported a half smoked butt hangin' out of his mouth....He slowed to a crawl, never put a foot down, gave the three "Sturgis guys" a long hard stare and then just slowly shook his head and rumbled off...It was really quite comical.

I would guess that the Sturgis guys drove up 400 to get there and the other guy is more, uh, local.
