Default damaged (vacuum?) hose

hi a newbie here. new to this forum and new to Porsche.

does anyone know what this hose is for? see attached pic. Can I just cut off the damaged piece? my car is a 1997 993 Targa.

Also during my PPI the mechanic mentioned a clogged vacuum hose, any ideas what/which one that could be? how can I check?

tnx,
Arthur

That is the distributor vent hose, provides a little air to the distributor to prevent ozone build-up from prematurely ruining the distributor drive belt. You can just trim off the damaged part, reattach the hose, and you'll be good to go.

^^^Bobby beat me to it. You can just cut it short, or if that doesn't work, it keeps pulling out (the issue I had), or its just brittle, order a new one.

Appears to be the distributor vent hose. If so, it is an opaque/clear-ish tubing and the other end goes to the distributor. Just order a new "distributor vent hose kit". Pelican has them for $14 (000-043-202-52-M100 Distributor Ventilation Kit, Carrera 2/4 (1989-8/93))

Looks like the distributor vent hose, the other end is probably connected to the upper distributor. If you have enough slack and it would not kink the hose, you could probably trim it an reconnect. It's not vacuum line. Here is a link to the kit on ebay, just to give you an idea.

A common clogged/collapsed vacuum line could be the 3-way port on the upper left side of the Varioram. It's hard to see when the blower assembly is in place. Just a thought.
