Corteco vs Rein Engine Mounts from Pelican Parts
Hello Rennlisters,
Yesterday, I received a pair of new engine mounts for my 993 C2 from Pelican Parts. I ordered the Corteco mounts, and my invoice states part # 993-375-049-09, but I received Rein Automotive mounts with part # AVE0382P. The Rein box states that the part "Replaces: 99337504908", which seems to have a slightly different application on the Pelican Parts web page.
Pelican shows the original application for the part number ending in 08 as a Corteco part "Engine Mount Left/Right, Carrera (1999-05) Carrera 4 (1999-05) " and the part number ending in 09 as Corteco "Engine Mount 996 Turbo (2001-05)".
I called Corteco and they told me that Rein is not part of their company.
I looked up the Rein part number and the AVE0382P mounts can be had for only $80.95 each at http://www.fcpeuro.com/products/pors...11-23043014589, which is $20 less than I just paid at Pelican.
I have three questions.
1. Is the Rein part of similar quality to the "OEM" Corteco part?
2. Is there a difference between the part numbers ending in 08 and 09 or does the 09 just supersede the 08?
3. Should I return the Rein parts and buy Corteco parts from another source?
Thanks,
Todd

Well the answer to that question is no. The 08 does not supersede to 09
The 08 is for 996 the 09 is for 993
They are the same size and shape, just different rating I would guess

Called Pelican. They claim they are Corteco parts but distributed by Rein. They do not have Rein 993 engine mounts in their system, so they think that Rein shipped them as Coretco's distributer...
Not sure about the answer?

Just an opinion, but if you (OP) did not receive what you wanted and ordered; would request return authorization including shipping...wasn't it an old Porsche advertising line: "...there is no substitute."

Ok folks. Here is the update on the story:
This is the email traffic in sequence:
Pelican Parts to me:
993 375 049 08 and 09 are the same part.
Parts supplied by CRP come in Rein packages the part inside the package is Corteco. The customer can contact CRP directly http://www.crpindustries.com/ if he has other question on why CRP packages parts in this way. What he has is correctly marked.
Thanks
Pelican Parts Customer Support"
Me back to Pelican Pats: "I called the automotive division of CRP at the number on the website below (800.526.4066) and asked them if they own or have an supplier agreement with Corteco and they told me they do not have any association with Corteco. CRP makes Rein parts and Corteco is a completely different company with different products. They told me that the statement in your email that "Rein packages the part inside the package is Corteco" is simply not correct.
I expect more accuracy and due-dillegence form Pelican Parts' customer support. I have wasted a good hour and a half on this already and have only gotten mis-information so far. Your website advertises 993 375 049 09 as a Corteco (OEM Supplier to Porsche) part, which the Rein part is clearly not.
"Since Rein repackages parts they are naturally made by someone else and according to our purchasing manager CRP has ask that we list who actually makes the part and not the Rein brand. His reply is below:
CRP has branded almost their entire program Rein, and ContiTech (for wherever conti is OE). Their sales people have no idea what is actually in the box, they just know they sell the rein brand. All I was saying is this answer is expected because we have more info than the CRP sales staff does on what brands are actually in the box. Against CRP's wishes we don’t use their brand name Rein, and call products what they actually are.
So this leaves us with CRP telling consumers one thing and suppliers another. If CRP is not willing to tell consumers who makes the parts inside the Rein box as they have instructed us to advertise we will have to take the parts back. This is extremely bothersome to us the ones who are selling the parts as well as it is to you. I am sorry. If you wish to simply return the order, please let me know. I will proceed with sending you a return label and issuing a return authorization."
The engine mounts are unmarked. There are no part numbers or manufacturer's stamp or part number on them. Can anyone that received Corteco 993 375 049 09 mounts confirm whether or not they had part numbers on them? This would help clarify whether or not the parts may be Corteco or not.
Thanks,
Todd

Drifting
Doberdog,
I'm running RS mount (RS would have C2 style chassis) on my C4S. From what I recall, there were perhaps different part numbers at one point, but C2 or C4 should be interchangeable. Turbo are different due to longer bolts needed for that engine carrier....IIRC.
Do some searching, but I'm pretty sure C4=C2 for engine mounts.
