The point is that not all states offer diminished value and that, in my example, the insurance company would not have offered a diminished value claim even if the damage had been more severe. I have other examples with non-Porsches but chose to elucidate the post with a story about my 993.

My '95 cab. has a carfax accident (front right collision with another car) listed in 1997. When showing the car to a local new car dealer, he told me: "your paint is great (car had total repaint in '97), and given the age of the accident, it doesn't count hardly at all".
But I agree when I am personally looking at a used car, seeing accident on a carfax dims my interest. If the car was properly repaired (as mine was), the car should go a long long time. I'd say your attention to proper maintenance would be far more important over the long haul than any accident.
If, OTOH, the car has a "salvage" title - that means a much more severe "incident". I would not buy a car with a salvage title.

Maybe they should because why should the victim take a loss. Of course, premiums would reflect the additional coverage.
Better yet, instead of increasing everybody's premiums, have the renewals skyrocket of those that are at-fault. Fact is, accidents don't just happen; they're usually due to inattentiveness and stupidity...and I am getting tired of paying for those drivers/losers.
