Default Project Lightweight

So begins another insane chapter (diet). The sunroof will go, the big stereo with 2 amps and sub enclosure behind drivers seat, carpet and door panels for RS versions (or even thinner Perlon carpet) both air bags, steering wheel (in favor of Momo Prototipo), lower dash...and?

I have Recaro PP's already and am not running the spare. The stereo added some weight....so lets get some guesses as to the current starting weight (on the scales last night no driver 1/2 tank of fuel).

Pay no mind to the cross weights this was not level ground. Pretty pleased with this actually as there are some big ticket savings yet to be had! Goal is 2700 or less.

Nice...you should be south of 2800 after the airbags gone, momo wheel, sunroof gone, stereo gone, and RS interior installed.

Good to see on an accurate scale too.

How are you removing the sunroof?

Good question. Is there a right way and a wrong way? My tech had a customer they did this for once before whereby they used the sunroof panel as a template to weld in a new panel pulling the sunroof motor etc out at the same time. Once we pull the whole interior out I was planning to have Autos Intl put a new interior in an viola.

I've seen threads discussing a process to put a sunroof delete SC skin on but I'm not sure why this is preferred and/or is there a weight difference or??? Not married to either way but for sure want to do it right so all guidance including local recommendation welcome Bob thank you!

Thats a great starting weight.

Here are the weights of the things that I pulled out of my car:

Passenger Airbag & brackets - 7.5lb
Lower Dash - 13lb
Rear parcel shelf - 14lb
Rear seat backs - 9.5lb
Rear seat belts - 4.75lb
Rear wiper - 10lb
Stock Headunit, amp etc ~ 16lb

there is a good 75lb's for you.

Now add a nice lightweight battery and save 20lb
Sunroofectomy is in the vicinity of 40lb

That would get you nicely under 2800.....

What sub enclosure and speaker do you have? I might be interested in buying it if you are thinking of selling.

Also, didn't Thatcher do a CF roof? Someone here did. It was documented with pics, very interesting thread.
