Key and ignition question "I searched i promise!"
Weird incident today, stopped at gas station today to fill up my early build 95 C2(no immob) got in to start it back up and key would not turn. I have a very light touch when I start it up but the damn thing would not budge - zero movement.
It took me nearly 6 tries before it finally turned and started. Is the barrel on its way out, is the key too worn etc I want to avoid this again if i can fix it for good.
Thanks in advance.....

Nope, first thing checked as I have helped a few family members out with that problem.

Thanks Alex, i'll give that a shot. Also going to try it on my front and rear doors at home. I have replaced the front door mechanism twice in the last 2 years!

Wipe down the key a few times after spraying the lock mechanism with Lock-Ease or you might end up with black stains in your pockets.
Let me know where you find the product locally. I'll check the next time I go stateside.

Have you any spare keys? Compare the shape of the "points" for any detectable wear. See if the spare key is smoother. If both keys are worn, have the dealer make you a fresh one and get some copies made while it is fresh.

No key code card to speak of. I compared my two keys when I got home today and traded it for the one with less wear. Hopefully this will work + i'll use the more distinct one to cut a new key as well.
Thanks for all the input gents, Alex I will let you know if I am successful at finding the lock-ease locally via a PM to you.

Any auto tranny, as far as I know, has an interlock switch that prevents car from starting unless it's in Park or Neurtal. The switch is on the stick itself and it controls a relay that controls a solenoid that physically blocks the key from turning. Unless it's a Saab where the block is mechanical (key between the seats).
Both switches and relays go bad periodically. Wiggling the automatic stick in the Park position sometimes help when the switch contacts are starting to go bad.

Contact Porsche Canada and see if they have your key code on file. They won't give it to you, but they will to a local Porsche dealer for you to get a key cut.
As for the lock, any of my locks (vehicles, home, etc) all get ultra smooth when I spray them with Lock-Ease. Just a 2 second application is all it takes.

Tip lever can be squarely. It has to be fully depressed. By depressed I mean the shifter has to be fully down on the lever. I went crazy until I realized that if it creeps up very, very slightly it will not engage as Mike S. indicated, and that means ignition lock!
