Default Immobiliser Problem Inverness

Hi
Just about to purchase my first 993, (1997) I know the history of the car and very keen to get off and pick it up from Inverness.

Unfortunately the newly purchased fobs for the immobiliser seem to have thrown a head fit and now the car will not start.

Could anybody suggest a garage/person in Inverness, or within a radius of a 100 miles of Inverness, who could have a look at it?

Thanks

Paul

Are you familiar with how this immobilizer works? Turn key to pos 2, hit lock button on fob, turn key to start car. That might work for you.

Thanks for the reply.

It is the current owner who has been locked out! I have gone through it with him. We have both spoken to the original manufacturer and they have advised a temporary disconnect as a solution.

Hopefully that will sort it.

As it stands, the reason given sounds odd to say the least and raises many questions.

what's really going on?

Look at the attached as many get all twisted up programming key fobs and attribute it to other stuff.

It seems the original got squashed somehow. Two new ones were purchased from the manufacturer. I have since spoken with them and this has been confirmed.

The mechanic for my current Porsche has know and worked on the 993 since 1999. He is very respected and the car comes highly recommended, I have no worries on the validity of the car. Unfortunately the mechanic is in Devon.

Yes, it does seem odd on the surface, but in fact it is just one of those things, remaining fob damaged newly purchased fobs are playing up. Agreement made that resulting work will be paid for by the seller.

I just needed an electrically minded mechanic in Inverness, apparently Porsche in Aberdeen are a little busy for the next 3 weeks.....

Thanks for your concern

I don't think this procedure will work without a functioning fob. I believe there is a way to prime the immobilizer for programming using the key and immo code. It's in the factory repair manual. My manuals are at home so I won't be able to look for it for a few hours.

Send an PM to user E_T. He may be able to send you a link?

If you do not have a working key fob:

A. Use the key to unlock - lock - unlock the door within 5 seconds.

B. Open the door, insert the key in the ignition, and switch the ignition on within 10 seconds of the last door unlock. The warning light in the clock will come on and go off again within 15 seconds.

C. Continue the process attached by pp000830 starting with Step 2.

hoggel,

In following the procedure attached by pp000830, you state in a previous post that in order to successfully program a remote, you must be in the car, with the door closed and locked.
Could you please confirm this is accurate information and necessary?

Additionally, when inputting the code with on-offs with the key, do you go all the way to the left for the off position; as if you were going to pull the key from the ignition, or to a point just before this position?

I understand the "on" position as when the instrumentation lights illuminate.

Morning Chaps
Thanks so much for all of the information. Needless to say it has all been printed off, read and digested. I fly up first thing, apparently all is good to go. Ill post an update, with some pictures once she's home.

Take lots of pics on the way. I think I speak for many when I say we love pics of 993s on roadtrips! Especially in other parts of the planet! Enjoy -

Did I say the doors had to be locked? I don't remember saying that and don't know why I would have (but I forget a lot of stuff). If your system(s) are working correctly you should be able to follow the procedure posted by pp000830 (doors closed and unlocked) and get your fobs programmed.

If you don't have a working fob, or if your alarm system has faults, you can use the "Emergency unlocking of the door using the key" process to get to the immo programming mode. That process is in the repair manuals and I think it is in the owner's manual too. It is what I suggested a couple of posts above; A, B, C, and then pp000830 process starting at step 2.

If that doesn't work ... maybe you have the wrong code? Some people have confused the key code with the immo code.

Second question is not quite as definite. The ignition switch has 4 positions, 0 - Off, I - terminal X (wipers on), II - terminal 15 (ignition on), and III - terminal 50 (starter). The key code is entered by going off-on between positions I and II. But occasionally the mechanical detent of the ignition switch and the electrical contacts are not aligned precisely. I have not tried this ... you could turn the key to position I and turn on the wipers. If the wipers are on and the caution lights in the gauges are off then position I is good. Switch position II is good or your car wouldn't run.
