I wonder why they bothered. It is a ground strap...not like it can short circuit on anything.

 

I believe that German wiring can short in complete vacuum of deep space without any ground or charge being within 47 million light years. The only question is - when it shorts and there's nobody there to see it - will there be smoke? German car wiring is truly special.
