Used a $18 hand clothing steamer and a non-marring plastic chisel /scraper from Harbor Freight. Don't fret any loss of symmetry from left to right or variability in the rounds in the corners as any variance basically becomes invisible once the guard is applied.

I'm looking to get the fil from 3M but in 12 mil thickness. Do you know where can I source the correct length/size in roll for this task? Seems like I can't find it.

What mil thickness did you use?

Hi, I don't recall what the thickness that is being used now is but it is less
than the original. That has not been a problem and I think it is better.
The material has improved since the 90's.

If you want to buy the film you could try these two contacts that have
made custom stone guards for me and find out how to get it.
