Rancho Santa Fe "Secret Car Club" Cars & Coffee 4/13
After an extremely long time flying home last night, I was pretty beat, but decided to drive a whole 5 miles to SCC this morning. Kinda glad I did, there's always something cool. The star today was a '37 Bugatti Type 57 Cabriolet, built by the factory back then, based on a '34 Coupe. This is world class caliber stuff, in fact it was at Amelia Island a few weeks ago, and won best in show at La Jolla Concours last week. It's nice to see Paul drive his superb collection-he's got several other gems. Alan Johnson does his work.
A few other bits and pieces to ogle too, and a very "ordinary" 993 to round it all out. But, people did take pics of my car too, and several stopped me to ask questions, so I guess we are special too!
The day I forgot my camera....sorry for the phone pics.

Ed,
I was there too, but a little bit on the late side. I took my wife to Thyme in the Ranch for quiche and muffins. The Daytona was still there and a few other cars but I am bummed that I missed the Bugatti
The Bugatti engines are absolute works of art!

that is a good looking Buick!
Ed, thanks for sharing with us midwesterns
The Bugatti is incredible, can't imagine seeing someone driving one of those on the streets, but so glad the owner did.
Also, that white sunroof 356 - is that the car that was featured in excellence a few issues ago?

Actually, that is owned by a German, who has a penchant for big American cars. A one owner, 1973/32k mile car that he picked up recently. It was out of a time capsule.
He has numerous rare cars, and loves driving them, which is great to see.
That 356 is a pretty special car. It was literally purchased with a blank check. Porsche apparently sent someone to look at it, as it was an early "special wishes-type" car. It's probably my favorite 356 of all time. He just bought a similarly perfect '54 coupe, that is documented as the first sunroof coupe ever built by Porsche.
Some of the guys who show up here each week have fairly substantial cash reserves. It's pretty humbling, but they are pretty good people, who love sharing their cars.

Might be a shock so some, but I was rockin' on with a '78 Lincoln Town Coupe complete with Landau roof that was a similar (albeit only 10 years old at the time) "find." Was my tow vehicle for a couple of years, and BART car for heading over to law school in SF.
