can that car be federalized now a days? kinda sucks we can have em as collectors.

As I understood it (from a few years back), you can get a 1 time "lifetime" exemption to import an grey market car. I think each state has its own rules re smog tests (if there is one). For example, in Washington state, a car over 25 years old is exempt from the bi-annual smog test.
