Default Car Shipping

I'm looking to ship my new-to-me car from Portland to Dallas. I've never shipped a car before and am reading really horrible reviews of these transport companies.

Does anyone have good advise/experience shipping a car? I've called a few for quotes but it doesn't seem customer service is something the industry strives for.

Thanks,
josh

A quick search will yield a wealth of information. My recommendation would be either Intercity or Plycon Vanlines. I recently went with the latter and things went without a hitch... the car even arrived 2 days earlier then expected. Both offer very competitive rates.

In general I found the customer service of all the places I called to be somewhat lacking, but the truck driver who delivered my car was stellar and very easy to work with.

Call Karen at BATSmotorsports (google them) and tell her Nathan sent you. Great people, all enclosed, speciality carrier. What 993 did you buy?

Call Gilbert at Philam Trucking in LA. Good guy with great customer service and low prices. Used him a couple of times with great success. Tell him I said hi. GL

Have worked with both Plycar and Intercity within the last couple of weeks on two separate shipments. I have used Intercity twice, and both times was highly impressed with the level of service and most of all the attention to detail and general 'good guy' factor of the drivers. These guys definately know the cars well.

I've also had recent dealings with Plycar, and in comparison to Intercity was not as impressed, but have heard they are cheaper (this experience was on a car I sold - the buyer arranged Plycar.) I didn't get call backs until I pestered them a couple of times, and the driver was not as professional as the Intercity driver. He couldn't drive the manual transmission on the 3.2 Carrera and bogged and killed the motor 4 times just trying to get it on the truck.

Hog Haulers in McMinville, Oregon picked up my car from a shop in DFW and trucked it to me with a load of the original take off parts, all arriving in perfect condition! All protected in an enclosed trailer.

My back can't handle 4 hours in a jumpseat and then 30+ in a car. But if you're volunteering...

Intercity is good and well known. Personally I have used HORSELESS CARRIAGE and they were excellent. On time and car unharmed. Gave me a model of the 18 wheeler they drive.

I was very happy with Intercity for my transport from Dallas to SF Bay Area. When the driver opened the trailer door I saw my car wrapped in plastic. When I asked why he said "in case the car above it leaks". I don't know if this is standard with all carriers but I thought it was a nice touch.
