Default 1996 vs 1997/98 C4S

I am in the market for a 993 C4S. I was wondering if I should get a 97/98 or 96 or does it really matter as long as I find the right one.

I believe, but I could be wrong, that VarioRam was introduced in the 97/98's models. Although, I have read it was introduced in 1996 models (with the 64/21 engine on the model year 1996). Any idea? Any differences between the model years?

I am looking for opinions and input.

Thanks!

96 vs 97/98, No difference at all other then the DME ECU chip set being soldered in vs. socketed.

They all have Varioram, early 96 didn't have the raised lettering on the manifold.

If your looking for white, 97 (blue tint) is a different white then 96 (yellow tint).

Other then that nothing much at all.

Ecu of 96 is one time programable. While 97 n 98 are flashable. Everything is pretty much cut and dry.

I believe they all have Varioram. I own a 97 C4S, with a 96 build date. The big difference will be the ECU. The 97-98 can be flashed, whereas the 96 can't. If you plan on keeping it stock, then any year should be fine. Find the one that suits you, and enjoy it.

And even some vendors can (or at least claim to) upgrade the 96 ECU: http://www.protomotive.com/services.html

Buy the best one you find, regardless of year....

Did you guys know that the 96, 97, and 98 C4s all came with Varioram? I bet you didn't.

also, the 97 and 98 computers can be reflashed.

I don't think that was mentioned.

Buy the best example that comes available as they will become harder and harder to find.

I think they switched to a metal impeller for '98. Had problems with the plastic impellers.
