Default MOTOR SOUND PACKAGE

Really guys, I did try the search function first. Question,: I realize the mufflers are different on a motor sound equipped car but I am already running BB TRI FLOs. I see where I can get the induction unit that replaces the normal unit with the chrome housing and drilled air holes from Porsche for $235.00. Will this improve my sound or performance? What is the difference in sound from a stock 993 w/o vs one with motor sound? My car is a 96 993 Targa. THANKS.

I purchased a used air cleaner hosing / cover and drilled my own holes in it (there is a faint impression on it you could use as a guide for drilling). There is a definite difference in sound, very noticeable intake growl that is prominent at 4,000 rpm and up, sounds great. I believe I read somewhere else in a posting here there may be a 1 or 2 hp gain from doing this since it frees up the motor's breathing a bit.

$235? That is crazy, if you refer to the Motorsound airbox COVER. I paid just over $100 for that a couple of years ago from Sunset. I figured for such a low cost, I'd keep the original stock, and safely on a shelf, and get the chrome trumpet too!

It sounds good at higher rpm.

The Motorsound airbox is a stock airbox with holes drilled in it, and it gets a chrome lip around the air box intake. No really performance advantage here. If you have a Varioram (96 and later car), you'll get a nice induction sound @5000 RPM under full throttle aka WOT.

The Motorspound mufflers have a nice sound, but are probably quieter than your current B&B set up. I had the B&B Triflows and found the noise less than optimal for my ears. I now run FD Motorsports muffs with Fabspeed X pipe and 200 cell sport cats.

Thanks Ed and Martin. The Chrome trumpet/chrome lip comments helped me discover something about my car I didn't realize. I had noticed the cover had a chrome lip so when I went out to take a closer look you can imagine my reaction when I found this:

I have a Motorsound cover yeay!!!

Not sure if it is OEM no 993 number on it, but that does explain the music over 5000 rpms!!

Smile One more step...

Consider a set of FD Motorsport Stage III muffs, their most aggressive sound. The pair is also 17 Lbs lighter than the stock muffs...no resonance either.

Aktung > I highly rec one, my car sounds great. Hunt around I bet you can beat that price and it just snaps right on.

I have the GHL Stainless mufflers the PO put on the car. I think they are no longer available, but they are a great muffler. They are louder than stock (but not as loud as FD IIIs) Have a nice rumble at idle, no drone, yet really sing over 5000rpms especially with that motorsound cover.

My favorite is 3rd or 4th gear simply because they get to 'sing' longer than first or second - the shift comes too fast. But admittedly, this does require a little open space

Now you need RSR's and some motorsound muffler tips and you will have a nice set up.

Well, I don't know where the OP was looking, but Suncoast shows the Motorsound cover for $130. Still a pretty good bargain, as Porsche parts go.

These and the FD Motorsports mufflers are the most commonly used.
