1998 Arctic Silver/Classic Grey C4S
I'm back
Just can't seem to get these cars out of my system. Found this two owner Arctic Silver on Classic Grey 1998 C4S in San Diego back in November. Some great factory options, hard back sport seats, alum shift **** and e-brake, alum sills and the sound package.
The car had just under 90K miles on it. It had been garaged for a few years and needed some TLC to get back to DD status. Struts, tires, fluids, belts, plugs, wiring harnesses, distributors and the usual routine maintenance things needed to be done. Compression and Leakdown values were excellent. No leaks and a good history of maintenance records.
Sent it over to Wayne Baker at Personalized Autohaus for the necessary repairs and then flew out there to pick it up for the drive back to CT. Did a leisurely two week 3,800 mile trip with several stops to call on some of our bigger accounts.
The car ran flawlessly, smooth in all gears, no clutch issues and handled great on the new Michelin Pilot Sports. Importantly, there was no noticeable oil consumption for the entire trip!
For the most part I couldn't tell much of difference between this C4S and the C2S and C2 cars I've had in the past but the C4S seems to be a bit more of a challenge keeping a tight line while accelerating into and around the the on-ramps, the steering wheel seemed much heavier in these conditions.
I was pleasantly surprised to see the Flying Lizards transport when departing Kingman AZ early morning. Stopped at Fort Sumner NM, final resting place of the infamous Billy The Kid. Spent some time in Flagstaff, Dallas, Atlanta, Philadelphia and NYC before getting back to Central CT. This was my 5th cross country drive in a 993....it's a great way to see the country, I highly recommend the trip to anyone who hasn't done it yet.
This is my 6th 993....no I'm not a dealer and I don't consider myself a car flipper either since I usually put an average of 10,000 to 15,000 miles on all the cars I buy. I think they're great cars and I've always liked the 993 since it came out, it's just as much artwork to me as it is a daily driver. There is nothing else on the market that I'd want in my garage (the Audi R8 does come close).
My first one a '97 C2S was from a Rennlister in AZ, put about 14K miles on the car then sold to another Rennlister in PA
Second one was a low mile '98 C2S drove it from CA later sold and shipped to Europe, put only 6K miles on this car.
Third one was a '97 C2S from CT with an aerokit sold and shipped to Europe, just couldn't get used to that wing.
Fourth one was a '96 C2 from a Rennlister in CO, drove it cross country twice and later sold to another Rennlister in NJ.
Fifth one was the same '97 C2S as my first one, I bought it back from another Rennlister, put another 10K miles on it and then drove it to it's new owner in Seattle.
Some of you cynical bstrds have already PM'd me about getting renndibbs on it when I go to sell.
Is Rennlist a great place or what?

Beautiful car. Like silver much?
What suspension is it ridding on? Visually, it seems much improved over your C2S (which I assume from the pictures had a stock setup)?
Maybe I've been spending too much time around modded cars, but I never understood how Porsche US could think it was acceptable to sell cars with such massive front fender gap!
I'm also curious to hear your perspective on the driving manners of the C2 vs. C2S vs. C4S since you've owned all three. You've already commented on the understeer in the 4S... any other obvious differences?

Damn beat me to it....
You need to add all your cars to your signature so we can keep up with the list. ..........And maybe it'll remind you next time you think about selling! Seriously, just admit you have the sickness and be ok with it.
