Default Question for people using 996 turbo twists/wheel tire experts

I have a spare set of 996 OEM hollow turbo twists left over from another car.

I was thinking of using them on my 993 C4S.

It doesn't look like it will work.

The rim size is the same at 18 inches.

The front tire size is the same at 225/30/18

However, the rear tires are 295/30/18 series not 285/30/18 which is stock..

The outer part of the tire comes out too far. If the car ever bottomed out the tire would hit the lip of the fender.

285 series

295 series

From above the lip.

285

295

Side by side

My options are:

- put on a smaller rear tire on these rims
- sell the spare set

I have to sleep a bit on this one before I decide home much effort I want to put into solving this.

Strange. A lot of people run 996TTs on their widebody 993s without any issues.
Are you sure you have 996 Turbo rears and not the 18x12 996 GT2 rears?

I'm running turbo hollows with 295s and I find they do not stick out like what's
pictured above...Not even close!

Something is definately off. Mine fit just right. Is there a spacer attached to the hub, by chance? Either that or Bowman is correct. Might be the GT2's. 996 rears with 295's is perfect.

I literally just bolted my 996tt wheels back on my C2S and they fit perfect, 18x11 et45 offset. The width and offset should be embossed next to the valve stem. Definitely the wrong offset or as boman said the 996 GT2 wheels which are 12in

As mentioned before, the sizes you mentioned fit the C4S perfectly. Please post the dimensions and part number of the rim.

Long shot, but could there be a spacer in place making the wheel stick out more?
By looking at the pic the numbers next to the valve stem appear to be 11 and 45 which should bolt on a wide body with no issues.

Here the rim info:

Heres the tire info:

Everything seems right?

Does Bridgestone just happen to make a wide sidewall?

I would also bet that there is a spacer attached to the hub. It would never stick out that much otherwise.

I'll take a second look - maybe I missed it.

However looking at the stock C4S rim with the 285/30/18 tire next to the 996 Turbo hollow spoke - the 996 rim/tire combo is clearly wider:

A 295 tire should only be be 10mm wider than a 285 tire (at least as far are tread goes).

Gotta have a spacer bolted to your hub. As everyone else has stated, mine fit perfectly running 295's!

BINGO - there is a spacer.

A big thanks for all of the help.

Once they are off, I should be good.

Just out of curiosity - are the spacers are part of the OEM setup?

Or, did a previos owner of the car decide to put them on and if so, for what purpose?

The set of I have of the 996 Turbo Twist have almost been never used and the Tires are near new.

The original rims need refinishing after 15+ years and the tires had uneaven tread wear.

I just finished the suspension and this will give the car a different look this season.

The ride height still needs to be adjusted.

NOT stock on C4S. Came with Turbo-look solid spoke wheels (which have a crease in the back of each spoke).

However, these look a little like some 32mm (or was it 28) Porsche factory spacers I have that are used to mount my 996 MY02 wheels in the rear. IF Porsche OE, they will have a part number on them. What wheels did the car have on before? Possibly they didn't have the right offset to fit properly, so the prior owner put the spacers on. Or the car has LOTS of negative camber, so spacers help to fill the wheel well.

If you ever plan to use spacers and need to pass a AX/DE/TT tech inspection, you should use open ended steel lug nuts, which allow you to visually inspect that they are fully threaded on.

Just to piggy-back on this spacer issue, how much torque to tighten spacers to hub?
