I have searched....
I am looking to use 17 inch cup wheels since they are cheap. I am trying to find what sizes would work best for my C4 and I am looking for sticky tires with very close outer diameters.
Thank you four your suggestions!!!

Well, 225/255 is a slam dunk. Then you move into the 245/275 of the NT01/RA1/Hoosier (R1 probably is outside the AWD tolerance), but you might have rubbing issues in front.
Bigger question is why you want "sticky" tires? Until you've done pretty much everything there is to do suspension-wise AND are absolutely needing/consistently at that last 1-1.5 sec/min of lap time, there are many tire choices out there that "just work."

I agree 225/45 & 255/40 are both 25" tires that fit well on 7 & 9 x17
If you were to use Hoosier R6 there is an interesting alternative, 245/40 and 275/35 are both 24.7" tires that fit on 7 & 9 x17 wheels

"Sticky" for you probably means R-compound slicks.

It's difficult to find DoT R in many desirable sizes
R6 and Kumho 710 are the only 245/35 & 285/30 x18
MPSC and R1 are the only 225/40 & 265/35 x18
Nitto N01 and HK Z214 are the only 235/40 & 275/35 x18
I'm sure that there are limited choices in the 17s too

Long time racer here and we also service most of the racers in this part of country with Hooiser's BFG's and Toyo's. We'd be happy to help you decide what is the best set up for you.

Hankook Ventus 214's are the best values in 17 inch tires for DE in my opinion. 225 and 275-17 are 24.9 and 25.6 diameters. Lots of stick and probably cheaper to run than MPSC's given what the michelins cost.
Unfotunately, and I defer to Damon @ tire rack, availability can be difficult. I buy a couple sets whenever they come available, whether or not I need them at that moment.
I suspect I'm the last track guy in the northeast in a 993 on factory 17' wheels. Factory 17" 7 and 9 cups or twists are beyond dirt cheap.

I would give the Federal RS-R a shot. They come in your size (225/45 and 255/40), are sticky (140AA rating) and are DAMN CHEAP.

420 USD for a set is hard to beat for a sticky tire. I would like to try them for my 4S but they do not have a 275/35/18 for the rear ...

BTW...I was using Toyo RA1 235 in front and 275 in back. For a long time. But once I started paying attention carefully and realized some of what I thought was the suspension was actually tire roll, I switched to Nitto NT01. So much better in my opinion. What I give up in footprint I more than make up in less squirreliness.

to get the most out of a tire you want to use the widest wheel speced for that tire, this varies w/ tire diameter width and aspect ratio.
for 7 x 17 a 205 /50 speced for a 5.5-7.5 wheel will perform almost as well as a 225/45 speced for a 7.0-8.5" wheel
255/40 is speced for 8.5-10" wheel
235/45 and 265/40 while fitting on the 7&9 will have more roll over yet

I'm in that club for the moment.
Holy crap...that's very tempting...

Curious about tire roll on an RA1. Across the 993, torsion bar 911s, and Spec Miata, I can't say there's anything in the form of tire roll that's unpleasant. Drive on a slip angle? Sure, well except for the SM. But not like the bias ply Avons on the 910.

That's the problem w/ putting wide tires on narrow wheels
to get the most out of a tire you want to use the widest wheel speced for that tire, this varies w/ tire diameter width and aspect ratio.
