Actually the first debut of that tail from Porsche was an option on the Carrera 4S, usually matched with body color hardback sport seats. Often those special cars came with body color technology wheels. Late 96 to mid 97.Then after the TTS and over a decade it seems those cars are now reduced to TTS wannabes.

I forgot the correct name for it but it is actually a wide body aero option later used on the turbo S. I too prefer the way it looks to the turbo tail.

My former version

My father loved it so much he had to find one too.

Thanks for the photos! I had a Turbo tail on my car when I owned it back in 2003 for about a day....It was too flat and looked melted. I wound up selling it and going with the small add on wing to the retractable one. I love the look of the Turbo S on the narrow body and since I already have the turbo nose...I will probably get one BTW, I am selling my 1989 964 and I parked my new 993 next to it and I forgot how much I like the bulging muscular fenders of the NB993. When I bought a 996 I had to go C4S widebody as the 996 NB looked very plain to me.

A few pics of the wing on my car before I removed it. I believe this is an MA Shaw piece. Currently hanging on the wall in my shop - I went back stock...

That red 993 looks great, what are the wheel specs?

I finally got to drive my old/new car again for about an hour...so smooth and precise! I find it very comfortable and of course fun to drive. Has anyone invented a short shift kit for the 993 C4 yet? Also, my car has an Autopower roll bar and I cannot see out the back through the rear view mirror...just like the third brake light in my 964 Grrr....any mirror mods or just live with it?

There is an RS short shift kit for the C4/C4S/Turbo cars. FD Motorsports has a great short shift solution with their "Golden Rod". This doesn't require a huge "bump" in the drive shaft/shift rod tunnel. I love their package... it makes shifting a dream.

Have never understood the aesthetic appeal of this tail. It looks like a perfectly good 993 backed into a towel rack. And -- a bi-plane wing on a street car? C'mon, that's just silly.

Boxcarracer, those wheels are RH "speedline replicas". 9X18 front 10X18 rear (I think). They bolt right up, no spacers required.

I can see why some folks like this tail, but not my cup of tea (so to speak). It does look better hanging up on my shop wall as opposed to installed on my car...
