Default Tip your delivery driver?

For you who have had a vehicle delivered to your home by Intercity or the like, did you tip your driver? If so, how much? A percentage of the delivery cost? $20bucks?

This is new to me and was wondering what the etiquette is.

I think I gave him $20 so he could get himself lunch, whatever, etc. I think he appreciated it (at least I think he did).

I tipped the driver $20 for his service.
When is the big day, Jim?

I've always given my guys fresh coffee, a homemade sandwich, Pepto and whatever other road magic they need, a bit of love and a hunnerdolla bill.

If your driver calls after he picks your car up, ask him what he may want when he arrives, and tell him there's a 100 waiting for him. This realy helps with the little things should he need to move your car, and helps him during those sleepy hours; for the guy on a shoestring, this may allow him to feed well while he's on the way, knowing there's a bit of cash later. This is not an easy job.

Wow, I am from the UK so tipping is still a mystery to me but $20 for a job you probably paid north of $1000 for seems a little light..I like the idea of dangling the carrot of a $100 bill.

Thanks, guys.

Sunday is delivery day, Nam. Going to take it to my mechanic Wednesday for new suspension, bushings, alignment, etc.

Delivery was way less than $1,000. Closer to half that. I'm thinking $40.

I have a '98 C2S coming, a car I have dreamed of owning since 1998 when I was a poor resident without two nickles to rub together. I am really fired up to get this car. It will be a nice DD compliment to the RS 4.0.

I have to thank Nam (P-daddy) for his help Rennfaxing the car and advising me along the way. Also, Mike (Arena993) was a huge help as I went from car to car. Thanks guys! I will post more info after I get the car and make it "presentable" for the Board.

Exactly....don't think we've ever tipped under $100 with DeMoise or Intercity. They take extra care of the cars whether or not they get a tip, but we feel a C note is appropriate......YMMV.

Six years ago I tipped my driver $75 because he called me the day he got the car on the truck in Indianapolis, and then twice the next day on the drive down to keep me dialed in on the arrival time. It was clearly more than he was used to and he was grateful for the tip, but then I was grateful for excellent service.

On a $1500 Intercity delivery I tipped the driver $100. He kept me informed the whole way and he arrived right on time. He was quite happy with that amount.

I think I tipped $150 or $200 on an $1800 delivery where he worked with me extensively to get it dropped off at the shop on a Sunday.

I just had my car transported from New Mexico to Atlanta. It was $1600 door to door and the driver kept me updated everyday until he got here. He was on time and took care to take to car off the transporter.
Gave him a hondo!
You have to realize that they are transporting cars worth quite a bit of dollars and they realize it.
Do the right thing. IMHO
