Default Scissor Lift Access Question

Can anyone who has a scissor lift (similar to Bendpak MD-6XP) advise if you can get to the other trays (pans) under the car to remove primarily to clean the underside of the car? I know I can access the engine tray.

Bob, as I recall I had no problem removing both the engine tray and the transmission tray with the Bend Pak lift in it's stock configuration. I still had the BP when I did my engine/tranny drop but I did remove the rear crossbar on the BP before I did it. The only thing I would recommend is getting (4) hockey pucks to put on the lift pads to give it a little extra lift over the frame bits. I would actually suggest getting 6 or 8 pucks and screwing/glueing 2 of them together to allow underbody parts to clear the arms.

I currently have the Max-Jax, both lifts have their plus' and minus'.

Bob, should you get one, here is a very nicely done mod to a Bendpak (and any lift like it) that discusses the rear cross bar.

Thanks Bill. Good tip on the hockey pucks. I like the Max-Jax but with my garage I would wind up with one post at the edge of the slab and would not be able to raise to full height.

Bob-got your PM, you will have fine access. My Bendpak came with three heights of pads-the tallest wouldn't work under the 993, but the lowest and middle versions do. The middle one gives you a bit more clearance above the lift.

I redid a complete exhaust system on a 928 on the lift. As noted, the only real interference would be the rear crossbar on a motor/trans drop. But, I did such with my 911 without the mod-it only took a little eyeballing to position the car correctly.

Good luck!

Bob, I had Sapphire on the lift to change trans fluid, so I took a few pics to show you what it looks like underneath. As you can see, I use the lower pads, but I snapped a pic of the others too. If you go a bit higher, there's a lock position that allows you plenty of access "inside" the lift.

Are the swing arms removable when not in use?

You could, but why do you ask? They swing forward and backward inside the wheels, when not in use.

I am looking at putting the lift in a pit to be level with the floor in the down position.

On a 993 I like to use lock in pucks, the 4 silver pucks in the middle. They lock into the stock lifting pads and make the whole process much more secure/

Go here for some pics, post #22

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsc...rs-club-2.html

The first pic show the lift all the way down with the arms in. I am planning on making the recess deep enough to allow for a cover on top of the lift when not in use, just put a 1/4 recess around the edge. The third pic has a nice ideal...slope the end of the recess so it is easier to remove the lift.

Bill can you advise where you sourced the silver pucks?
