Default Hot idle engine tick

Spent the weekend working on my recently aquired 95 C2 and after getting the car up to temp for an oil change I noticed a distinct tick tick tick sound from the engine while it was idleing. I got the big screwdriver out and stuck it against my ear and believe its coming from the drivers side exhaust valve cover. I can hear faint tapping on the passenger side but its definatley loudest from the drivers side.

The noise is not apparent when the car is cold, and it doesn't really get louder with revs (more blends into the general engine noise). Car had 15W50 Mobil 1 in it when I noticed the noise, changed over to Brad Penn 20W50 and the noise remains.

I did some research on the forum and see that lifters are a common issue on these cars. Before I order 6 and swap out the exhaust lifters on both sides I just want to confirm that my diagnoses seems correct? The car has original valve guides with 65K miles on them however oil usage is around half a quart per 3000 miles and doesn't smoke on startup even after sitting for extended periods.

If I'm correct in assuming its likely lifters can anyone recommend a good place to order some? I see Pelican has 2 of the 3 types (with one of them being $200+ per lifter!!!!) but can't seem to find other options.

Thanks.

if you are getting a screwdriver , sticking it to the valve cover , to hear the ticking....you probably have a
100% original 993 engine made in germany in there...and running fine.
All the 993 engines tick, like a sewing machine.
The ticking is less when cold, because the engine is louder.
The time when you need to change the lifters, is when it Hammers, and the sound is unbearable.
If any mechanic advises you to change lifters because it ticks, I will bet $ with him, and I will send you 6 lifters for free, and prove to the mechanic that it ticks with new lifters as well.
spend your well earned money on something you need
regards

ps: if you mod your mufflers...you won't hear a tick

+911

depends on the type and severity of the ticking...

Most often a sticky lifter is heard with the engine cold and fades as it warms up. When they are completely gone they will tick all of the time.

If you are clearly hearing it on one side only, then you likely have the diagnosis correct
