JStyler - any chance we can get our hands on your beautifully made jig? Looks robust enough to do a fair number of jobs.

Otherwise, maybe Garth has another one available. I was put on the list last year and still a long way to go on that list.

OC is fine too!

Be happy to contribute anything I can.
Extra bits, drill, gloves, goggles?
and of course beverages...

I prefer to use Screw Machine bits for most of my drilling now unless I need to go deeper, they wander less than Jobber's and are inexpensive. No need for spotting most of the time too.

Garth,
Thanks again for the idea! This has been a lot of fun and the mod makes a noticeable improvement on the steering precision.
Peter,
I caught myself out by assuming that the two guide holes were used - good set up you made for the single drilling technique! Also, thanks for the tip on screw machine bits ...

Doc Porsche,
If you are in San Diego let me know and you can come over to my place next weekend and I will help you get your tie rods drilled out. I don't have a lift but doing one car on jackstands won't take long.

If you guys up in Orange County want to schedule something it will be a lot of fun, and you just might break our World Record! I think a few of us might head up just to hang out and see more cars too

Regarding the 4 Post lift, depending on how wide your rails are there might not be much room to work on the tie rods. You may want to visualize performing this task and if there is room to hold a drill perpendicular to the tie rods it will work. Some racks have really wide rails which can make suspension work tricky.

The jig is definitely heavy duty... If a bit clumsy. There is a few people on the list right now, and the jig is on its way to S2K993. I'm sure when the three people on the list are finished with it, they wouldn't have a problem sending it your way. As far as I know, the current list for my jig can be found here:

The tie rod drilling jig is still sitting in my garage...
Did someone else want to take a whack at this?
I would prefer a local pickup, but I can mail it out.

If everyone in the San Diego area is done with it, then I'm interested in it but I'm up in Orange County. But I'll need a quick ship.

PM me your address and I will get it out to you.
Once you are done try to arrange for the OC/LA tie rod pinning party. I think that would be fun to attend.

JPS,
I think there are 3 lists going simultaneously right now.
I will ask the guys in OC to get the jig out to you once they are done with it.

JPS, you are next in line as soon as S2K993 finishes with my jig. I believe he's working on pinning his right now, then he'll be PMing you.

Guys, I should be getting the tool from San Diego guys this next week. I'm going to try to see how possible it is to use on my car with my 4-post lift and a sliding platform that I have. If it works well, we can have a group tie rod pinning party at my home. If not, perhaps we can try at someone else's home who has a scissors or 2-post lift.

I think the pins are standard roll pins you can get in a hardware store. But not sure. I also believe there some pins included with the tool so as to see what we need to purchase.

Any one care to comment on that?
