Default 265 or 285 on rear turbo twist?

Why does some turbo twists come with 265 vice 285 on the rear tires when both solid and hollow wheels are 18x10 in size? I have a set of both hollow and solid, but the hollows came with 265 and the solids have 285. I checked tire rack for tires and they show 265 for the optional 18x10 wheel. What is correct for a narrow body car?

I have 295 30 18 on my rear turbo twists. Have Bilsteins and lowered. The rear fenders have been rolled a bit prior to my purchase 09/2012

265/35-18 is the factory fitment for 18", narrow body 993s. Wide bodied cars were equipped with 285/30-18 tires when equipped with 18" wheels. 285/30 will fit a narrow bodied 993.

Thanks Tim! I have 18" WB hollow spokes and I am running 265 on my rears, next time I will put 285/30 on.

There is no advantage to have 285's on a NB 993. 285's cost more and add understeer.

They do look better though. I just ordered a new pair of rear Bridgestone Potenzas for my NB 993 with 18" Twists, came pretty close to getting the 285/30's since they visibly fill out the rear wheel wells better but ended up getting the 265/35's (the same size as what was on the car) instead since I'm very happy with the way it drives with that size. One thing that was surprising was the price difference between the sizes, usually around 100 bucks a tire or so depending on brand.

That is correct

285/30 will fit on a n/b but the lower the car the tighter the fit and the more likely the fender lips will need to be modified in some way.

as noted using 285 rears will increase understeer unless bigger fronts are used too.

245/35 on 8.5 and 285/30 on 10 is a good setup, 235/40 could be used but is a bit tall and you'd want adjustable sways to dial out under steer

there is a small gearing edge w/ the 285's

I went to 235s front and 275 rear on my C4S. Combined with adjustable RS sway bars, the car is well balanced on the track.

Good point on the gearing. 30% of 285 is a lesser number. I guess that may offset any heaviness? Or do you still notice the weight difference?

I run 315 on the back. The solid spoke + 315 worth of tire is heavy!

Default Street or track?

For the street, the higher the profile the better the ride. I had 285/30/18 street tires once upon a time, brutal ride. Went to a higher profile tire at the first opportunity.

Now that the car is 99% track, I use the 285/30 Hoosiers. I have plenty of rear camber...no rolled fenders, no rubbing issues. Maybe I am not pushing the car hard enough?

I have 285/30-18 on my NB...lowered with no fender roll...no issues. It is much harsher ride than the stock 17" wheels...but looks a ton better.

It depends on how low the car is, doesn't it

theses 2 both need to have the rear fenders clearanced

and this one(silver) needed it w/ 275/35 x18 rears

Aslo tire brand makes a difference. I had rubbing with 275/35/18 star specs. No rubbing with the Sumi 285/30 or the Hoosier 295/30...
