Default The Real Deal or Not - Widebody 993 Cab

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Extre...item20ce719bc8

Could it be one of the Beverly Hills widebody cabs? Discuss.

Doubtful. IIRC Beverly Hills Porsche received five of them. Somewhere I read what colors they were in. I'm trying to dig up that info.

In any event, the fact is that the factory widebody cabs probably command a massive premium over an aftermarket WB conversion. If this were 1 of the 5, it stands to reason that the seller would know what he has (having paid the premium for the car himself) and advertise it as such (i.e. "One of 5 factory WB 993 cabs").

No. Per JPP

To be clear for those who might come across one of the real BHP 5 widebody cabs .. they were ALL sold as new by Beverly Hills Porsche and delivered to the customers there, not shipped to other dealerships for conversion or delivery, they are ALL 1998 model year cars so they are 'W' series vin numbers that should be in the WS3408XX series. All of them were delivered with 'S' split grill tails (no Turbo tails, although the white car had a factory one added in 2009) and there were 5 different paint colors ordered with no repeats: Arena Red (my car), Glacier White, Arctic Silver, Black and Ocean Blue. The Ocean Blue car was the only Tiptronic in the group.

^^^^^ Good info. I sent a question to the seller asking about the body being original or added to.

That is to my knowledge from the information I have discovered since buying mine. Technically speaking, all of the BHP 5 cars were 'modified' to wide body by BHP (or by a contracted shop through BHP as I understand it) with parts sent with each ordered car under the control of Porsche Exclusive and delivered as new from BHP to the 5 buyers. A potential buyer would want to have the rear fender liners removed and do a thorough inspection to make sure the turbo extensions are in place at the base of the B pillars as designed ... as many here know, mine were missing, so if they're in place, I don't know if that verifies it is or is not a BHP car but it would verify it was converted properly :-)

I would think they came from the dealer with the basket handle since they would have to meet US Regulations.

That is a guess however.

No. I talked with Beverly Hills Porsche...car was sold through another dealer (I think it was number 142 but that number is no longer an existing dealer).

Yes, all Cab's have the basket handle and these were no exception. When the white car had the Turbo tail added in 2008, the stock handle and twin grill decklid were removed and sold ...

Brooks Motor Cars body shop has a very good reputation here .. factory authorized repair for Jag, Aston, Ferrari, Lambo .. etc. http://www.brooksmotorcars.com/ I have to say, the work on this Silver cab looks very nice from the pic's .. if you could verify with Brooks what was done and what damage if any was on the car when it came in to ensure it's not a salvage title car, then this could be a rare chance to own a nice wb conversion cab. Having said that ...if all is good the asking money is high IMHO .. I think high $40K's is all the money for the mileage.

So not being a real BH-5 car and assuming PPI is good. What's it worth 40k - 45K?

I'd say $45K because I add $10K for the Turbo body work which honestly hardly covers the parts these days plus the factory (assuming) hardbacks and aluminum .. it's fairly nicely optioned. Anything below that would be an excellent deal IMHO if all checks out, and to be frank, from my experience with my car and first hand info I have from another owner, I'd bet the paint and bodywork quality is much better on this car than the BHP work. PM me if you want more detail ..
