Default Feedback on the ECU Dr. aka Specialized ECU Repair?

Any one have experience with guys? They claim to be able to eliminate the immobilizer ( even on a US '96) and re flash for more HP and torque.

I haven't used them,so I can not comment on them specifically. I have an early build 97 (96 ECU),and considered trying to have my ECU flashed, but decided against it based on input from others much more knowledgeable in that area. It seems the 96 is not an EEPROM like the 97-98. It was not designed to be flashed. You have to rig it up to flash it,and that does not always last. I decided to just source a 97,and have it programmed.
Good Luck.

Default Another source.

Lance Aspesi, brother of Dan Aspesi owner of Speed Gallery, does all the ECU flashing for Dan. He does great work. Call him, note he is a one man shop and may not pick up on the first ring....

The '97 & '98 ECUs are not plentiful on the used market and pricey when they are. I plan to call them tomorrow to discuss. They claim to have a work around for the '96 on their website.

Dennis,

FYI,........

Some folks install a socket on the '96 ECU circuit board for a re-flashable chip and that technology is not always robust. I've repaired a good number of those and do not employ that technology here for that reason.

Be sure and ask how they do those '96 ECU's as you certainly don't want to be stranded somewhere.

Steve, I spoke with you a few months ago regarding loosing the immobilizer and performance boost to the '96 ECU. At that time you said you were not able to alter this unit, still the case?

Yessir, as above.

I've chosen not to use the technology of installing an extra socket over the CB for a re-programmable chip, due to reliability issues.

For me, I recommend procuring a '97 ECU and doing that one to suit as its much more reliable.

Dennis, did you speak with them yesterday?
I also have a 96' and would like to get it flashed if possible.
thanks.

They will be closed until Jan 2nd or 3rd. Long Christmas break. Good for morale at the shop.

I recently e-mailed a chip vendor that we are all quite familiar with on this forum.

I asked what power and torque improvements I would realize and at what RPM. I'm not interested in those gains in never-never land RPMs.

I also asked for dyno charts for power and torque taken on the same "stock" car on the same day with the stock chip and their chip.

I never got so much as a peep for a reply. Geez, I guess I asked too much of a technical question. How dare I question them...maybe I should just be a lemming like the masses.

ECU re-flash amounts to 8 whp and 15 ft/lbs of torque on a 97-98 computer (running 98 octane gas). I know this to be pretty consistent because my car was dyno'd multiple times to run NASA GTS. So not a ton of horsepower, but the torque was very noticeable. I think my unit was programmed in Germany and done by FVD at the time. A street car maybe different since the exhaust restriction is much higher.

Bob, where on the RPM range? Down at 3K or up near red line or beyond?

I'd like to see these numbers on a bone stock 993. Those gains tell it all under those conditions. As mentioned, I never got a response from them.

"ECU re-flash amounts to 8 whp and 15 ft/lbs of torque on a 97-98 computer (running 98 octane gas)."

So! And most likely above 5K RPMs.

And now the engine requires a higher octane, great right?
As indicated by the data from here;
https://rennlist.com/forums/911-foru...-the-myth.html
a simple timing 'push' appears to the naive as a significant 'tuning' effort. What a joke.
