Default What seat rails to use on Recaro Seats?

I'm sure this subject has been beaten to death, but I can't quite seem to come to a finalized conclusion to my question.

I'm purchasing a set of bottom-mount Recaro seats for my 993 and want to know what seat rails the bulk of you are using? Thanks in advance.

Wedge Engineering is probably the one as they make rails for Recaro.

The issue is that all rails offset the seat slightly off center vs. steering wheel. Not much you can do about it.

Thanks for the info. Does anyone know if Recaro makes a 993-specific bracket?

See what I've written above.

Recaro doesn't make a 993-specific bracket, however Wedge Engineering does, as Mike wrote.

Having used a LOT of sliders over the past 38+ years, IMHO the Recaro ones are tops. You get what you pay for.

Stable claims to sell a Recaro based slider for the 993: http://www.stableenergies.com/Recaro-Adapter-Bracket-Kit-Porsche/productinfo/REC-BKT-P/

+1 on that. Most issues with Recaro bucket seat install issues are not the slider but matching the correct side plate to the seat to obtain the standard Porsche distance between the sliders which I believe - check me here - is 16". Slider issues usually involve bolt distances which can be corrected by drilling the slider.

Recaro race seats come in either a standard 395 or 430 mm "XL" side plate mount width and both have Recaro side plates available to achieve the Porsche distance, but if you try to use the side plate for a 395 mm SPG on a 430 mm SPG XL seat the distance will be off by 35 mm.

Steve, I'm very curious if you've ran across any rails that don't introduce that offset issue.

If I understand correctly, 993 (and I think most others as I've had this on several cars now) OEM seats are installed slightly angled towards the center of the car. The aftermarket brackets, however, are all straight. This causes the seat to be offset outboard and the hands to be kinked to the right in LHD cars. Please tell me it's not just my imagination.

I just measured standard 993 seats I have in the shop here and the center to center distance of the sliders measures at 410 mm (16.14").

Standing back and looking at the relation of the seat bottom to the sliders I do not see any offset, the seat bottom appears centered over the sliders and the center line is parallel to the sliders.

This says to me that installing Recaro's should not change the relationship of driver to steering wheel.

The diagrams I posted above do not show the correct side plate for the XL 430 mm seat. The wider seat has an "L" shaped side plate as shown below to come out at the 410 mm spacing required.

The Pole position below has the correct side plates for a 430 mm "XL" wide seat

The Profi seat below shows the correct side plates for a 395 mm standard wide seat

When I measured mine I got 410mm front and 405mm rear, in other words there is a 5mm taper front to rear

Can you check that on yours?

410 mm both ends, no taper. Taper would make the seat bind when moved would it not?

Note that the rails and seat bottom are symmetric to each other with no offset.

OK, easy with seats out of car and it is 410 mm from bolt center to center.

Front and rear.

Try these guys in Oakland, they were recommended to me by Recaro:
