Good friend of mine has a B7 RS4... I traded him my GMC pickup for the RS4 for several weeks this year due to a knee injury. I loved the car so much I bought a new B8 S4... A bit more practical and updated tech...

The RS4's V8 exhaust note is truly intoxicating! And, it is fast as hell! I agree that the nav is outdated, but my God is it fast for a daily driver! My friend's has 45k miles and he has had no problems with carbon... He has had one shock replaced (leaking), but it has otherwise been bulletproof... I can't imagine you would ever regret getting one!

Just be careful with high mileage cars and the timing chain needing lots of work.

Very nice car to have and own. Even more if snow is part of the equation.

Almost bought a S4 for daily but price of gaz is horrible here.

My father in law as and S8 and it's pretty cool.

carbon build up while yes is widely blow up on forums - it is also widely real - as said, w/ pretty much any FSI motor

f'n lame if you ask me

so yeah, pretty guaranteed carbonectomy intervals, if you're so inclined (you should be)

also near guaranteed DRC failures (Dynamic Ride Control suspension - what the blown shock guys are referring to but they're uber sophisticated)

Awesomeawesome cars no less - 8200redline? 6spd 5 seats AWD 420hp and a trunk? Giddeup. I've enjoyed me-time in some, good stuff. My //S8 4.2 sounded simply awesome - the RS4 notably better.

TorSen center diff FTMFW - quattro does in fact rule

Fanboifactor? Yes. Unfortunately. Qworld is a good forum, but no denying the RS4 fanboifactor and yes sometimes it is immensely irritating. I enjoyed my 5yrs in the D2 area there, but random surfs to RS4 always (always) proved painful unfort.

I still want one. Make mine a cab yes pls tx!

8-)

correct, US hugely suckingly never received neither the B5 RS4 / RS2... ftards making the import rules

I've heard of a few E46's with rear subframe cracks, even Tourings.

The only reason why I have a B7 S4 and not an RS4 is because I need the extra space in the Avant. Yeah, the carbon build up is a PITA but you gotta pay to play. If the trunk is not an issue get the RS4!

I like them, but they're really expensive. You can buy 2 nice E39 M5s for the price of an RS4. And nice as the RS4 is, I don't prefer it to the M5.

Well I pulled the trigger on a 2008 Phantom black, premium package, carbon trim car. Its an original canadian car with full service history and 62,000 km's (less than 40,000 miles). I called our local tuning shop and they do carbon cleans for between $4-700epending on how bad the build up is. Really not an issue as I might have to do that every 2-3 years! Really wanted sprint blue but RS4's are pretty scarce in Canada and this one ticks every box other than color! Oh well, the C4S is black so I will have 2 black, big assed toys in the garage!!!!!

You do?

If you're on this forum, you should be familiar with the mirrors, brakes and front fog/signal assemblies. Bunches of other Porsche stuff in there too.

What color? That is the uber sport-Audi! I don't need to tell you that though......

Unfortunately, not. A handful have made it in though, most (if not all) being out west. There was one on eBay a short while ago.

If you want a 2.7TT in an avant, get a B5 S4 avant, or an Allroad with 2.7. Both are hard to find in a manual.

Take care!

Both the RS2 and RS4 (B5) are highly tunable so that has been popular carīs to buy for younger peoples when the prices came down so that they could afford to buy them. Thats not the same thing as can afford to own one. Itīs not easy to find an original car these days. The same thing can be said about BMW M3 of similar vintage.

Here is a picture of my RS2. Itīs volcano black. A true sleeper as most people think its just an Audi 80 Avant. The RS2 is very fast even by todays standards. Make no mistake about that. Itīs primitive in a good way. When the turbo kicks in it feels like a brutal takeoff on an airliner. The 993 turbo which I also own feels more sophisticated the way the turbo kicks in and in the way the power is delivered, but also more agriculture to drive in some ways. The 993 was probably "old" school even when sold new. But that should not came as a surprise for any 993 owner on this forum or any other. The mechanical and analogue feeling is one of the reason why we own one. The 993 is of course much nicer to look at than the RS2.

only thing that I would say that is that in comparison to a rival such as an M3 of the same year that the RS4 pushes a little. Engine is very far forward in that car, seems to make it lack a little precision/turn in. Love the engine tho and would still have one over an M3.
