Battery for remote key fob and a screwdriver small enough to get it open.

Have a great trip. I've done distance drives (1500 mi round trip) a couple of times in my 993. In fact, my wife picked up the car in Boston when I bought it in '01 and drove it to then-home in central NJ.

Last spring I drove 14 hours each way to Scottsboro in my BMW E24 for the annual Southeast Sharkfest. My advice is to stay off I-81 (especially the northern half in VA) as much as possible. It will take longer but will be more enjoyable.

Here's a crude iPhone pic I took last week of the car of the car. It's still in Boston, and I'm still in Alabama! Can't wait ot go get it.
Got a question: It's got the basket handle and it's a 96---I thought only the 95 had it? And to Paul902, thanks! I wondered if anybody would get it!

Its a convertible, so it requires the basket handle.

Good luck and enjoy your new car!

I knew I would get great response from this place, but you guys are great. I'll try to post pic updates during the trip.

Re. the route: I plan to leave out from Boston and travel I95 then I78 to I81, then I75 to northeast Alabama. Bart, I'm in Scottsboro, about an hour due east of Huntsville in the Northeast corner of the state.
I'm so excited about this trip I can't stand it.

Greg
Mass Pike (I90W) to I91S to I95S will be ~ 1 hr shorter than your planned route.

I'll take that advice about the route. I usually take a lot of roads that parallel the interstates and offer more serendipity.

I have a scary question-In the unlikely event that I have to get towed, what are the things to check for as they're loading the car?

Practicing posting photos from iPhone. Here's another crude one.
