Smooth like butta...
I store my car from Dec to March, but in an effort to get a few more weeks of driving time with my 993 in New England with temperatures dropping well below 40 degrees, I picked up a set of 17" Cups w/ Michelin Pilot Alpin winter tires.
I am amazed at how smooooth and quiet the 17's with the pilot alpins are compared to my 18's.

Cool!
Smooth sure, but quite? You sure you got snow tires?
By the way - looks like you have a nice winter vehicle already, the A4 Avant! 1.8T or 2.8?
Have you driven the C2 in the snow? How is it?
Take care!

That's the effect of supersoft sidewalls of snow tires. The ride is really soft and smooth. Just don't expect them to handle well in the dry - they feel like the car turns its ankles in every turn. Which is fine, just need to remember that.
I've driven several C2s in snow. They are perfectly fine with good snow tires. They are better than most RWD car because the weight is over the driven wheels so there's excellent traction. The rest is simple - the car doesn't care how many driven wheels it has when it tries to stop. People tend to forget that (I used to work for Audi, its was often comical).

Mike,
I put a few miles on Rob's new set-up. They are not as noisy as other brands and ride real nice. Not sure how they'd do in the snow.
Glad you are happy Rob,

Al, I never found snow tires to be loud. Than again, I don't drive quite cars, nor do I care at all how loud any of my tires are Squared off Hoosiers from sitting two weeks between races... now, that's loud.

Mike,
Mine are always noisy, especially at 80mph on the pike.
On my DD I run 4 studded dedicated snow tires from Thanksgiving through St. Patrick's Day. We live on an isolated ridge (lots of windblown snow) and need the studs to get home. It is always a pleasure to remove them in the spring.
