Default 1994 993

My brother recently purchased a 1995 993 coupe. The build date on the car is 02/94. Does anyone know when they started producing the 993. I feel like this is a very early build date for a 1995 car? Thanks, David

They started producing it for Europe in 1993.

Just did some research on this for a car that was offered to me a while ago.

Porsche converted some ROW models with a 1994 built date to US 1995 models. If your brother has a car from this batch it has the option code M718 on the sticker. The good thing about this is that these cars did not have the Secondary Air injection that caused problems on US 1995 and later cars.

[Option M718: S Programme VIN change for USA and Canada only]

Sounds reasonable. My '95 build date was 4/94 and car has been nothing short but outstanding!

I'll be hitting 140k miles here in the next few days!! I'll post pic's when this happens!

FYI all US 993's had SAI pump and plumbing (718 included), Adrian S. got that part wrong in his book.

The main differences between 718 and later cars I have found are the lack of a fresh air intake on the rear blower, Boge shocks instead of Monroes (still at US height), rear suspension arms have different bushings, some minor electrical differences and other little 964 parts that changed to 993 parts as they went along.

These were still North American spec cars but for marketing reasons the VIN was changed from R (94) to S (95) so the North American model year 1995 was manufactured from late 93 until late July of 1995

That's interesting because I was offered a former US car that had the 718 option but without the SAI. I know the engine was rebuilt but how easy is it to take all SAI parts off?

Mine, a Euro spec, left the factory in March 1994. VIN number's last 4 digits 4002 means there were 4001 cars that left the factory before mine did. So, factory must have started producing the 993 in 1993.

Hmmm interesting...

Mine left the factory on March 16th 1994 and it was #0771, date is from the COA from Porsche.

The problem I have seen with Euro spec cars is the build date was not put on the vin sticker and it seems difficult for owners to determine exactly when the car was built.

How did you get the build date for your car?

Edit to add: Is your car a 1994 or 95 model?

I found this post for a 1995 with ending s/n 4002 https://rennlist.com/forums/6136659-post364.html but it is a US car.

To meet Taiwanese laws, all car manufacturers must provide birth certificate marked with birthday (ex-factory date) with each car sold to buyers. So each car buyer would know when his or her car was shipped out of the factory. But there is no way for us to know its exact build date.

Mine is a 1994 Euro spec model. Guess they mark Euro and US cars with different sets of VIN numbers. So you saw another Number 4002 in the US.

I believe the build date is on a plate on the door jamb ... shows a month and year. My 95 Coupe has a Vin that ends with 2334 and has a build date of 10/94. My car is in the shop or I would check to make sure.

I live in South Africa and am looking at buying a 993 imported from the U.K. -it has a m718 code -is this possible if it was not exported to the usa ?
