any problem with 17" wheels on a "95 993?
It says in Porsche 911 Buyers Guide (2nd edition, Randy Leffingwell) that Porsche advised early '95 993 owners not to fit these cars with 17" or aftermarket 18" wheels because the stiffer chassis "hammered the glass" causing delamination and in some cases, popping out the rear window. A "Touring" suspension was introduced mid-year to solve this issue.
I'm currently looking for a 993 and it seems everyone has 17" or 18" wheels. Has anyone ever heard of this before?

According to this book "Porsche immediately advised customers to not fit either the optional 17-inch wheel and tire package or even larger aftermarket 18-inch wheels and tires, as this further hardened the ride. Mid-year it introduced a "Touring" suspension to acommodate the optional 17-inch wheels and tires."
The book may just be wrong. It happens.

You'll find very few of us with <17" wheels. I think 18's start to get some ride degradation, and some don't like the look of the larger diameter. Personally, I like the 17's, and even that diameter is starting to get fewer tire choices. 16's have less.

Thanks. I just started looking (this would be my first P-car) and virtually every 993 I've seen has 17" or 18" wheels which is why when I read this it seemed strange.

Or from a RL member, chaoscreature. He may have some in stock. He made them, and they are quite nice.

BTW, if you have 16" wheels for the summer, you're not in a good shape when trying to get tyres. 245/45 ZR16 is not a common size any more and what's available was designed in the 1990s.
