Question regarding 993 C2S
Hello gang!
I am considering purchasing a 1996 993 C2S. I have a few questions though:
1) Were there any made WITHOUT the turbo front end ("regular" front end with a splitter)??
2) Did any come with a whale-tail inistead of the split grill which is a defining feature of the "S" models?
I ask these questions because the car I am looking at is described as an "S", but I have yet to see any defining features of the "S" on the car.
Also, the dials haev been replaced to white dials, apparently non-oem, and there is no "Carrera S" designation on the tach.
The only thing that alludes to the car being an "S" is the decal on the rear of the car.
Thanks!!!

1) No. Are you by any chance referring to Turbo S front splitter?
2) Yes. Part of an aerokit package (along with Turbo S front splitter) or added later.
Gauge faces may have been replaced with aftermarket ones, not uncommon.
Post some photos of the car and we'll be able to give you a better idea what you're looking at. The best way to distinguish a C2S over other 993s is that it has a wide body with the smaller black brake calipers.

Wide Body vs Narrow Body
Here's a pic I 'borrowed' from Pelican, comparing the two. As noted by ilko if you're looking at an 'S' model it definitely has to be a wide body.

The obvious differences are lower skirt on rear bumper, Carrera S insignia in tachometer dial and an upgraded shifter/brake lever. If the car was spec'ed with the full factory aero kit from Porsche then maybe it would have the split front air dam design. Get the option code list from the label under the hood.
Maybe you're looking at C4S if this is truly a WB car since these were available in 1996. However, none would have the early front bumper design unless it was switched out by an owner eg after an accident.

Not an S. It's a narrow body Carrera with Aerokit package. Gauges are OEM. And somebody slapped an S badge on the rear deck lid.
It's not even advertised as an S: http://www.domanimotorcars.com/web/u...orida/4789727/

Abdon,
Since front ends, gauge faces, and badges can all be changed (as you can see from this car), the most definitive S (widebody, WB) vs non-S (narrowbody, NB) feature is to look just ahead of the rear wheels at the lower rocker panel. From the pics you posted, you can see the line of the lower rocker goes all the way back to the front edge of the rear wheel well, the mark of the NB. If you look at an S model, the rocker line fades into the fender before reaching the edges of the wheel well.
If you were to buy that car, your first responsibility is to shave off the Poser "S" badge that was added (dental floss, goo-gone, and re-wax). It does look like a complete add-on since "Carrera" looks centered to me on the rear lid.
Good luck with your hunt! The hunt and anticipation is pretty exciting/torturous but owning is even more so! Exciting, that is! (ok and torturous when you get the bills for repairs...)

OK, its not a S, But...
...if the tail and front splitter are genuine Porsche parts, they are worth some money on the open market. I have a friend with a 98 Carrera S and it has a Turbo S tail from the factory...we think its from the factory.
