Default Cam Tower Wear Question

So, I have my engine apart and I'm cleaning the CAM towers and I see this. It is along the top. What does this indicate? Each picture is of one third of the housing from front to rear.

I see some wear on the cam bearing surface; is that what you are referring to?

The rest is simply part of the manufacturing process, however I do note the "notch" along the sealing surface.

Maybe someone performed a spark plug change with the valve covers off and rotated the ratchet extension again the tower in those spots?

Like Steve mentioned, some machining cleanup can vary due to core shifting in the casting process.
