Very interesting thread.

Bob: Does your car have fender flares? If not, are your fenders rolled? Do you get any rubbing on the inside with the 10x18 ET57? I suppose you get that on full lock but other than that it's fine?

This statement is so true, very important. Stretched tires = stiffer sidewall = sharper turn-in and better responsiveness.

Would like to see that as well. Theoretically, 10x18 ET57 would be a good fit, provided that there's space on the inside.

The big problem in my book is the limited choice of 18" R-compound tires. Follow my reasoning here; Having a "almost" RWD (85%+) turbo with over 500hp, you really need all the rubber/traction you can get in the REAR. 295s are a tad bit too narrow and because there are no r-comps in 305/30/18, the only choice really for me is 315/30/18. 335s could work, but then you need flares etc.

So, given the 315/30/18 rear, in order for the VC to work the potential fronts that will work with this rear tire is:

245/40/18
255/35/18
265/35/18
275/35/18 - (maybe)

Next issue is because I don't have a trailer and need to be able to drive to and from the track, the ho-ho's are a no go.

-The RA1s are discontinued in these sizes
-The MPCS would have been a great choice but the 315/30/18 is discontinued
-The MPSS are not available in 315/30/18
-The Dunlops and other brands are mostly not available in 315/30/18
-The Pirellis (PZero Corsa) are also discontinued in these sizes

That leaves like two or three options;

-R888s. These have really mixed feedback here on RL and are quite heavy and greasy when hot. The plus with these is they come in many 18" sizes.

-Nitto NT01s. Have got great feedback on RL and seem to be far better than the 888s.

So I want to try the NT01s. But they only come in 245/40/18. No 255 or 265, only 275/35/18, which I think is too big for 993TT front with rolled fenders. Or could this work? Then I would have to mount those on a 10" front wheel. Very tight..(if possible at all..?)

Next question is; Is the 245 too narrow for the 315 rear? Ideally, 255 or 265 would be better, but these sizes are not available. The 245 on a 9.5" rim will have a quite big contact patch because it's stretched but still.. The easiest solution would be to go 245/315 and be done with it but handling is SO important that I don't want a combination that will not work really well..

Any other tire recommendations? I don't believe there are any other options in these sizes.. Or am I missing something?

If we are talking front wheels, I am putting together a pair of 9.5" fronts. I thought this was as far as you can go but now I feel tempted to try 10" fronts. But if I stay with the 245s up front there is really no gain in going from 9.5" fronts to 10" fronts..

Or do you guys think I'll just have to settle for the r888s? It just seems that everyone on RL (993/996/997/991 etc) who have tried both seem to think the NT01s are superior..

Or build two sets; One pair in 9.5" with 245/40/18 NT01 and one pair in 10" with 265/35/18 R888.

Have a great weekend

Flares are absolutely required to put the bigger tires on the car: Here is a quick shot of the front flares when I was trial fitting the added splitter to the EVO bumper. You can also see the back has extended flares also. This is a clubsport fitment. The GT2 and RSR option is even wider. I did my own fitment and I have seen other conversions that were not as tightly fit to the car. It took a bit of time and a lot of cutting, bending of the front nose.

Thanks Bob, that totally makes sense.

Any comment on the 245/315 combo anyone? Will that ratio work or is it too much rubber in the rear compared to the front? It's about the same ratio of rubber front to rear as the original turbo and widebody setup from factory (225/285).

Turbo is 4WD and that makes a big difference on car balance. 285/245 combo was always good on my car when it was NB. I did run a 245/40 in the front which with Hoosier was a lot wider than the 245/35. I run either 275 or a 255 front and 315 rear now. Works well for full race.
