Default Steering wheel squeak?

Very slight squeak on slow corners...parking lots, turning at a light, etc. Both directions. Thoughts?

Maybe gear wear. Mine was repaired earlier this year and feels like new now. They tore apart the whole steering gear box and renewed two worn gears then put everything back together. About 8 men hours of work. Cost about $600 parts and labor including wheels alignment, but it is in Taiwan. Your case it may be at least $1,000?

Ok, I need a non-$1000 answer. Otherwise it is, "Squeak? What squeak?"

To be clear, the squeak is in the cabin, in the column, not at the steering rack...

JPS,

Does it sound like plastic on plastic? Or more metallic? There is that universal joint under the dash above your shins that may need a squirt of teflon lube.

Fair Q. Um, I'd say more plastic, but not really sure I can quantify. It sounds like a rubbing as opposed to squealing. I'll take a tube down there. Teflon lube as opposed to the white stuff?

The teflon lube will penetrate better and isn't as messy. Just put a towel down in case it drips a bit.
