I'm shopping for a 993. One that I found does not show the spare in the trunk foto. Should a 96 C4S have a spare tire ?

Yes, compact spare. Also check for complete tool kit. I'd be curious why, and how it was missing.
Factor in replacement cost if deal moves forward.
Good Luck,
search here on this site is your friend, the more about 993's you know the better.

As mentioned make sure that you get the spare, the tool kit and the jack (which is supposed to be in a soft bag). Check the content of the tool kit to make sure you have a complete set of stuff that is supposed to be in there

997 Porsches have no spare tire. Just compressor and fixa flat.
In the case of a blowout it would be great to have a spare. However, if not on a road trip, there are local alternatives. Same for bent rim.
It is a nice thing to have, but for around town it is just dead weight.

The extra 20lbs of the spare tire doesn't phase me, so i'll keep it.

FWIW, I've never seen anything but internet conjecture that the spare tire is part of the crash protection system of the car. If that was true, is it also true that you have an increased risk of injury or death in a collision if you happen to be using the spare during an accident? Funny, I don't see anything in the owner's manual warning about that. If it was true, purely for reasons of legal liability, the owner's manual would carry that warning. But it doesn't.
(The spare for my car is in my closet)
