993 Windshield and Rear Windscreen Removal DIY ...

Thanks George for spending the time on presenting this great write to us.
Not a job for the faint hearted!
What is your opinion on the quality of metal that Porsche used to make the body?
Do you think rust started on any spot welds and then spread? I ask because I found rust on the spot welds inside the rear shock towers. Most of the welds were covered beautifully with body seal. It was also around the engine compartment aperture on the underside. The surrounding metal was good. I came to the conclusion that the rust starts before the car has found its first owner.

Hello David,
I honestly have not witnessed any rust spot on pinch welds on my car.
The pinch welds on the windshield contour fall under the urethane strip area.
The original urethane sticks very hard on the metal, so under the urethane, there was zero rust.
I guess the weak spots on the 993 for rust are more where water stagnates.
I have found 4 symmetrical rust points under the front hood trunk seal for example.
I removed the seal and was puzzled because of the symmetry.
A 5 mm rust spot at 2 - 4 - 8 - 10 o'clock under the huge rubber seal. (where the front fender meets inside the trunk)
I looked closer at the seal, and saw it had 4 tiny holes at 2 - 4 - 8 - 10, from factory. The same holes as in the door seal.
I remember the shocks have a rubber seal when meeting with the shock towers.
Would it be water from the road sitting between this seal and the spot welds from under ?
I have no clue honestly
