Default Ignition lock light-bulb replace ?

Is there a resource that shows how to replace the small 1.5w bulb that shines onto the ignition lock ? There's a hole above the lock for the light... Mine has been out since I bought the car, and having see a buddies 993, now understand what that hole is for...

I did a quickie search, but found nothing on RL. I have the workshop manual, but interestingly it shows nothing on this, and nothing on the instruments themselves either....

Anything at all would be appreciated.... fiddeling with the key in the dark is a PTA.

Mine doesn't have a light shining onto the ignition lock, but there is a light built into the key.

Sounds like you have a toasted ignition lock light bulb too... That hole directly above the lock is to let the bulb shine out... Just needing to know how to get at the bulb itself so I can replace it... I think this bulb is also on the dimmer circuit...

Hello Vincer 77 - thanks for that, but this isn't the headlight **** light. You'll notice a small hole facing downwards onto the ignition lock (adjacent to the headlight ****). There's a lightbulb up in there, that illuminates when the door opens, so you can inset the key without too much fiddling in the dark, and l'm looking for info on that little guy...

Several of us noticed recently that not all 993s have this particular feature. It seems to have been introduced with the 97 model year ... however having said that I would love to retrofit this into my 96. Has anyone done such a thing?

Gotcha. I just went and looked. You need to pull the fuel/oil temp gauge out. The gauge pulls straight out. It has a rubber gasket around that keeps it snug in the hole.

Then you can reach in and pull out the light and change the bulb (900 631 132 90).

Vince: How much play is there in the gauge connection-lines. Is it just a pressure-fit in the slot with the retaining rim snugging it up?

Thanks RL ! Now if I can just get my thick hand down in there, I'll be all set.

FrankV's comment made me smile a bit, my 993 C4S happens to be a '97. I always thought the 993 had the same interior from '96 onwards. What other differences are there ? Do the earlier or base models have auto dimming rear-view mirrors ? (As an example) ?

My 993TT has this light. Its a 1996 model year with a 95 build date. It also has factory carbon fiber if that's a factor.
